SOCIAL SKILLS LESSONS BY GRADE LEVEL
Kinder-2nd
Interrupting Chicken
- All students: Read Interrupting Chicken, participated in discussion & completed worksheets. The worksheets went home today. Be on the look out!
- Second grade: Collaborated through creating an anchor chart. when someone talks over someone else who is just beginning a sentence. Interrupting is OUT OF THE ZONE & we even had a student offer that the ANTONYM (their word) of interrupting would be to sit quietly and listen. (see picture of anchor chart below).
- Interrupting Chicken is a super cute story. Please enjoy the read-aloud video link below.

Inner Coach
We are not going through the whole book, just learning about our "Inner Coach". Your inner coach is inside your brain and helps you work through the problem, find the best way to think about it, identify the size of the problem & help you think of ways to solve the problem while staying calm (from the book "Superflex takes on Glassman and the Team of Unthinkables"). We'll continue this lesson next week.
Student Work
Student's used ComicLife to create their own "Inner Coach" visual (in progress)

Lego Club
Students chose their favorite roles & made a new one: builder hybrid role (also an engineer). It was a very calm group this week with great communication. Builder also took over the role of the part supplier while sharing the responsibility of the other roles with other group members. Students decided to take turns and the instructions were passed around as they agreed that this late in the project, the part supplier job with fewer and fewer legos can become pretty boring. :)
