Principal's Office
This is our Roadrunner Weekly for the week of January 18th through January 22nd. I hope everyone has been enjoying this three-day, Martin Luther King Jr. Weekend. As was his legacy, let's always remember his message of peace, equality for all, and serving one another - ideals that never grow old!
To start this week, I wanted to recognize and congratulate our 4th & 5th grade school Spelling Bee qualifiers and winners. Due to COVID safety precautions, the county Spelling Bee was cancelled, but by popular demand of staff and students, we decided to follow through with our own First St. Spelling Bee. It was an exciting competition - congratulations to all of the participants:

"Roadmap to Reopening" - Highlights from Family Update #84 - Mr. Leaman, WPUSD Superintendent
Hello WPUSD Families and Staff,
Here is the UPDATE for Friday, January 8, 2021. If you want to report a COVID issue please use one of the links below and complete the form. After completing the form, we will contact you.

- Staff Version of the COVID Intake Form:
CALIFORNIA DEPARTMENT OF HEALTH RELEASES NEW GUIDELINES - GOVERNOR'S REOPENING PLAN
The CDPH released a new 51-page document with new guidelines for schools to reopen. Of course, the irony to that statement is we are already open. We are analyzing the document and determining how it will affect our in-person program. I want to assure everyone that through our staffs' efforts, we have successfully offered an in-person program since October 6, 2020. Our desire is to continue to offer our program 5 days a week using our current model. Our hopes are the new guidelines do not deter us from continuing in the manner we have so far this school year.
COVID CASES AND CONTACTS
Wear a mask and keep the distance. Our updated COVID cases and contacts are located on our website HERE.
IMPORTANT - PLEASE READ TO SEE IF YOU ARE AFFECTED BY THIS - Intradistrict Requests (New or Renewals)
Intradistrict requests are for students desiring to attend another school within our district, other than their school of residence. Approved intradistricts are good for one year and must be renewed annually. The process for requesting an intradistrict is the same for new and renewal requests. Students participating in specialized programs (K-8), such as GATE, Bilingual Immersion, Special Education, and GEMS Honors Academy, housed at specific sites do not have to complete an intradistrict request form.
With the opening of Twelve Bridges High School (TBHS), which means two comprehensive high schools in the District, intradistrict requests are now being implemented at the high school level. TBHS will open with 9th and 10th grade students only. Therefore, current 8th and 9th grade students who reside in the Twelve Bridges Middle School attendance area, will be slated to attend TBHS. Current 8th-11th graders residing in the Glen Edwards Middle School attendance area will be slated to attend or remain in attendance at Lincoln High School. All current 8th and 9th graders wishing to attend a high school other than theirs of residence must submit an intradistrict request. Intradistrict requests for the purpose of pursuing specialized programs housed at one of the high schools will be given priority. Below are the 2021-2022 locations of our specialized programs for our incoming 9th and 10th grade students.

Online Roadrunner Store Open for Business!
WHAT IS THE ROADRUNNER STORE?
The Roadrunner Store is the place where kids can "shop" for items to purchase with the BEEP cards they earn here at FSS for Being Safe, Exercising Responsibility, Engaging in Learning, & Practicing Kindness!
Typically, the kids would be able to walk through our Roadrunner Store once a month and shop in person. For COVID safety reasons, we have set up a virtual on-line store. The items currently for sale can be seen in the gallery below. To place an order, kids simply need to print the order form here, mark the item(s) they are choosing, and turn their form into their teacher or the school office. Orders will be delivered to class within two weeks of being submitted! Deadline for this next ordering period will be Friday, January 22nd; orders that made it in on time will be delivered Monday, January 25th.
FSS Face Masks Available for Sale in the School Office
There are 2 different colors/styles but both have the same wording: First Street School - "We’re going places!" The purple masks are $4 and the thicker black masks are $6. All staff and students were given one compliments of FSS CHAMPS!
