Apple Honors SMS!
We’re excited to inform you that Scottsburg Middle School has been selected as an Apple Distinguished School for 2019–2022, a three-year designation. Congratulations on being recognized for continuous innovation in learning, teaching, and the school environment.
Congratulations to the entire SMS community for this high honor. SMS has been a distinguished school for four award cycles 2013-2015, 2015-2017, 2017-2019 and now again for 2019-2022. This year's award application multi-touch book featured the ways that SMS is integrating PLTW engineering and design experiences into all three grade levels. The book was created by Miss Nass and Mrs. Copple and will be available on our web site in the next week. A special shout out goes out to the SCSD2 eLearning Department and the SCSD2 Technology Department who support both our student and adult learners!
Bus Route Survey
- If you NEVER ride a bus, say 'no bus.'
- If you ride a bus to different locations (aunt, dad, etc.) give the bus number for you home.
- If you ride an elementary shuttle, only give the bus that goes to your home.
- If you only ride a bus occasionally, give the bus number to your home.
Thanks for helping us update our records!
Drama Performances This Weekend!
The SMS Drama Club will present Around the World in 8 Plays by Patrick Greene and Jason Pizzarello this weekend!! Due to the large cast drawing large crowds, they'll be performing both Friday, October 25th at 6 PM and Saturday, October 26th at 2 PM in the Great Room.
Club member parents have reserved a few tickets for each performance. Remaining tickets will be sold at the door for $3. In the case of a sellout Friday night, we'll pre-sale tickets for the Saturday matinee. Doors will open for both performances 30 minutes before showtime. Light refreshments will be available. Club members, Mrs. Zeigenbein, and Mrs. Kruth... break a leg!
Responses to Bullying
Bullying can take several forms: physical, verbal, sexual, and emotional bullying. Bullying can happen in the cyber world or in the real world. Bullying usually happens in places outside the view of adults such as buses, restrooms, crowded hallways or lunchrooms, or social media apps. This knowledge is helpful, but it doesn't help you know WHAT TO DO if you are a witness or target of bullying. Let's take a look at some options.
If you witness bullying, you have a few options. You can walk away and say nothing. You can watch and say nothing. You can watch and join in with the bullying. If you choose any of these options, you are contributing to the PROBLEM.
If you want to be part of the SOLUTION, say something like "stop it" to the person bullying. If the situation is intense, find an adult. You can also call the target by name and ask him/her to walk away from the situation. When you are away from the person who bullied, let the target know that he/she didn't deserve the treatment and ask if the target wants to report it to an adult. Be a friend by connecting the passing period or next day.
If you witness bullying, you have to take a side.
Are you part of the PROBLEM or part of the SOLUTION?
What Warrior Essentials does it take to be a part of the solution?
Next week we'll look at options for those targeted by bullies.

Quick Notes
Fall pictures and picture proof sets were distributed to students on Friday, Oct. 11th. If you are not satisfied with your purchased package, bring the entire, uncut package back on retake day (Thursday, November 14th). If you were absent on picture day or if you moved in after picture day, you will also get a picture made on November 14th.
SMS iPads continue to have wifi connectivity issues at local businesses. Our new Securely management system is not liking how public access spots such as McDonalds or Taco Bell are functioning. Devices are being blocked at those places. If you need emergency wifi access, your best bet is to log in near the entrance to any SCSD2 school OR to log in at the SMS Pavilion. And even better bet is to prioritize your work time and complete wifi-sensitive activities during the day or to utilize screen shots or neuAnnotate to work offline at home!!
The fall dance is set for Friday, November 15th. More info will be released in upcoming issues of the Scoop. Mark your calendars now!
