FAFSA Help via ICAN
If you are still needing to do your Financial Aid Application (FAFSA) for college this coming fall, ICAN is offering Virtual Appointments to help you with this process. You will be sent a meeting link to join a meeting via Zoom. You don’t need Zoom – you just use the link to join. You would do the FAFSA (or create the FSA IDs and do the FAFSA – whatever help it is you need), but you will be guided through the process as you go.
If you are interested in a virtual appointment or want more information, you can contact Mary Joan Dougherty, the NW Iowa Advisory, directly at 515-402-4211 or email her at mjdougherty@icancsucceed.org. The online scheduling option is still available as well:
Career Academy -
Seniors - Don't forget to check out the Sioux City Career Academy Twitter Page!!
The Sioux Career Academy offers a variety of courses in 32 career pathways to prepare students to be college and career ready upon graduation. Please read below to see how students who have taken courses through the Career Academy have an opportunity for recognition at graduation.
Any student who earns 6 or more credits with an average of B- (2.7) or higher in any ONE of the 32 pathways offered through the Career Academy is eligible for an “Academy Scholars” honor cord. Students must have at least 6 credits in a specific pathway, and must follow the guidance for courses within the pathways. Visit with your career academy or CTE teacher and/or counselor for support in completing the application. When you have completed the application, ask your career academy or CTE teacher and your counselor sign off on the form. Applications can be turned in to the counseling office at your high school, or with the pathway or “major” teacher. It is possible for students to earn a cord in multiple pathways—and there will be a special cord for students who earn a cord in more than one pathway! The deadline for completing the applications will be April 15, 2020!
To learn more about the Career Academy, please check out the Career Academy page on the SCCSD website: https://www.siouxcityschools.org/sioux-city-career-academy/
