St. Viator Parish School
Viator Voice: February 18, 2020
We are anxiously awaiting the WCEA Team return next week!
A Visiting Committee of six will visit February 24-26, 2020 to validate who we are as a school community. The faculty and staff have spent many hours evaluating our programs
through data collection and analysis. During this process, we have identified our strengths and areas to focus on for professional development and resources over the next few years. During their visit, the committee will see that our students are quickly becoming life-long learners, active Faith-Filled Catholics, responsible citizens, effective communicators, and globally/culturally aware citizens. St. Viator Parish School provides a quality Catholic education where the gospel message of Jesus Christ is lived, learned and shared in a safe learning environment. The administration, faculty, staff, students, parents, clergy, and parish community collaborate to develop the whole person spiritually, morally, academically and physically.
St Viator Parish School is accredited by Western Catholic Educational Association and North Central Association. Not every school or district can or does complete the accreditation process. In addition to assessing the Catholic identity of the school (specific to the WCEA protocol), the process involves looking at multiple measures: test scores, student satisfaction, parent satisfaction, graduation rates, and acceptance rates at Catholic High Schools (or into honor programs in other high schools). Staff education level, experience, willingness to participate in ongoing professional development, assessment of students and the curriculum, teaching methods and resource management are also part of to the evaluation that determines the next steps for the school and leads to a successful accreditation visit. St. Viator Parish School is a fantastic school with great teachers, students, parents, and support, and we will be proud to show it off.

As we continue interviewing potential candidates....Ms. Garner will be providing Science instruction for 7th and 8th Grade Junior High School students. Mrs. Garner has a wealth of experience working with your Junior High student. She started at St. Viator in August 2006 as the Technology teacher. She holds Masters Degree in Curriculum and Instruction from the University of Nevada, Las Vegas and a Bachelors Degree from California State University Northridge. Mr. Smyth will be teaching 6th grade Science and several Technology classes. He taught Science for an area Charter School prior to coming to St.Viator this year. He is currently working on his Masters in Education in Instruction and Curriculum. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Technical Management. As you may recall, Mr. Smyth worked for JBE System as a network engineer on our infrastructure upgrade and iPad 1:1 roll out.
We thank you for your support and cooperation as we continue to advance our
programs, emphasizing Catholic identity and academic excellence. Should you have any
questions, please call the School Office directly.

A Look Ahead...
Monday, February 24th through 26th: WCEA Team Visitation
Wednesday, February 26th: Ash Wedsnesdy
The school office will be closed from 8:15 am to 9:15 am so that office staff may attend Mass.
In Father’s August letter to our families, he wrote, “The most significant criteria to qualify for the parish rate is regular attendance at Sunday mass. The only way we know who is with us on Sunday is through the envelopes. In order to qualify for the Parishioner rate a minimum of 26 Saturday or Sunday Mass attendance is required. Please use your envelopes. Ignorance of this expectation or forgetting the envelopes is not an accepted excuse. Of course we would appreciate your financial support, but this is not the main concern right now. Our main concern is parents teaching their children about their faith. When families join us on a regular basis for Mass on weekends, parents are showing their children the priority faith and church has in their lives. In this way parents are models of faith to their children. Whenever there are special circumstances we will always work with our families—just let us know.”
Please understand that multiple envelopes received in one weekend are counted as attendance on that particular weekend, not multiple days.

SLE 4E: St. Viator Students recognize, appreciate, and use their God-given Talent!
We encourage all medications to be given at home by the parent(s) and/or guardian(s) of our students. If your child needs medication at school, whether it is a prescription medication, such as an Epipen or a rescue inhaler, or an over-the-counter medication, such as Tylenol or ibuprofen, the following guidelines must be followed:
Each medication must have a current written prescription identifying the student, the medication, and must give the dosing instructions for your child signed by your child's primary health care provider. The following must be done each school year.
The parent must sign a Parent Request for Administration of Medication Form
The medication must be provided in the original packaging to the school health office.
The prescription label on prescription medications serves as a written prescription and
does not require an additional prescription.
Students are not permitted to carry medications in their backpacks or on their person,
with the exception of Epipens or rescue inhalers under certain conditions.
The health care provider must write a prescription that the child has the ability to self-
medicate and the parent must sign a permission form in the health office. The child must also keep the prescription box or label and the parent permission slip with them and be able to produce these documents if asked.
All medications will be stored in a locked cabinet in the school health office.
There will be no exceptions to this rule.
