Hello Hoover
September 1st, 2023
D Week Rotation
Hello Hawk families
I hope you are enjoying the long Labor Day weekend! We have many events coming up - September will be a busy month at Hoover middle School!
Administration
1. Open House had to be rescheduled due to storm Idalia to Monday, September 11, 2023 (6:00 pm – 8:00 pm). As you may know, it is very hard to coordinate setting up event dates with the elementary and high school around the area; however, we want to make sure all of our families have the opportunity to participate.
2. Algebra 1 Night was also rescheduled to Monday, September 11, 2023 (5:30 pm – 6:00 pm) in the Media Center. Only families of students currently taking Algebra 1 or Algebra 1 Honors need to attend this event.
3. Progress Monitoring Testing – On Wednesday, September 6 and on Thursday, September 7, all students are going to participate in PM1 (Progress Monitoring Testing) in their English Language Arts and Math classes. The purpose of monitoring students’ progress is to make instructional decisions that support students’ learning. Students’ results will be available on Focus 48 hours after testing.
4. SAC Meeting - If you are interested in participating in SAC, our first meeting will take place on Tuesday, September 5, 2023 at 8:30 am in the Media Center.
- SAC stands for School Advisory Council, and it consists of a team of people representing various segments of the community, parents, teachers, administrators, and other interested community members. The purpose of SAC is to assist in preparation and evaluation of the school improvement plan, and to assist the principal with the annual school budget. At Hoover Middle School, SAC meets once a month.
5. Thank you to all the families who contributed to our PBIS program. If you have not had the chance, please use the following link: PBIS Store. Please enjoy a few pictures of students purchasing items during our Friday lunches.
6. Fall Dance – Fall dance coming up on Friday, September 22, 2023 at 5:30 pm – 8:00 pm. Tickets will cost $5 before the event and $10 at the door. Students must present a parent permission form to purchase tickets.
- We are so excited to be back at school and cannot wait to see all our students on the dance floor enjoying a fun night with their friends!
- Hoover's dances have always been a great success because of the continued support from our parents and we thank you for that!
- We will have a DJ, food, and drinks and lots of fun for all. Parent volunteers are needed to help in many areas such as selling tickets, selling food, to security.
- Please use the red button to sign up!
- We are also asking for donations of sodas, water and individually wrapped snack/baked goods items to sell. Please drop these items off at your earliest convince to the front office.
7. Tied Together and JA Glow – On September 8, 2023 students will have the opportunity to participate in two different events, geared towards female and male students.
- Tied Together Space Coast - Tied Together of the Space Coast, teaches young men how to tie a tie. More than that, they teach boys the importance of a positive self-image and self-worth. Tied Together started in May 2014 as a small volunteer effort at Cambridge Elementary by a local realtor, Glen Outlaw. Since then, Outlaw has grown the organization to over 300 volunteers. Over the years, Tied Together has taught over 16,000 young men how to tie a tie, shake hands, and, most importantly, how to “stand tall as an individual.” Tied Together also presents an opportunity for fathers to get involved on campus. Volunteers must be registered through the district. If you would like to join us please complete the attached Tied Together Volunteer Form. To participate in this event, students must bring a signed parent permission form. Permission forms are attached below.
- JA GLOW (Get it. Learn it. Own it. Want it) is a presentation by females, for females about career paths and encouraging young woman as they begin to make decisions that will impact their futures. (Informational Flyer Attached). To participate in this event, students must bring a signed parent permission form. Permission forms are attached below.
