Mammograms
Mammograms are an x-ray image that look at breasts. They look for breast cancer, detect tumors or lumps that are abnormal.
Who should get mammograms?
Women should get mammograms incase they have breast cancer or any unusual lumps in their breasts.
At what age can someone get a mammogram?
Women should start getting mammograms at age 40 and continue with them.
How often should women get these exams?
Ages 40-44 - Women should get it if they choose to.
Ages 45-54 - Once every year.
Ages 55 and Up - Every 2 years at minimum and should continue to get one once a year if they choose to.
Pap Smears
Pap smears indentify infections and other problems, including abnormal cells that can develop into cancer if not treated.
Who should get a pap smear?
Women are the only ones to get pap smears.
What age should someone get a pap smear?
Teenage girls do not need it unless recommended by a doctor. Once she turns 21, she should start getting a pap smear regularly.
How often should a woman get a pap smear?
A women over the age of 21 should get a pap smear every 3 years or sooner if recommended by doctor.
Testicular Exam
They test for unusual bumps/lumps that could lead to cancer in the testicles.
Who should get these exams?
Men are the only ones that get these tests.
What age should a man get a testicular exam?
Rare in teens, but should start at ages 15-35.
How often should you get an exam?
You can give yourself an exam at least once a month to become familiar with the size and shape of your testicles so you can feel abnormalities in the future.
Prostate Exams
They screen for prostate cancer.
Who should get a prostate exam?
Men should get prostate exams.
What age should you get this exam?
Recommended for men ages 40-70.
How often should you get this exam?
Every 4 years but if you at risk of prostate cancer or if your doctor recommends it, you should get an exam more often.
