About the Newslettter
Please take a moment to review the following newsletter. It includes important dates and information regarding upcoming events, classroom updates, and new learning that will take place. It also may include links and/or google docs that you may want to visit.
English Language Arts (ELA)
The kindergarten ELA program is dividing into different components. Below you will find the skills that we will review/learn during the upcoming week.
This week we will continue with Start Smart (Week 2) . It is a three week review of basic skills, getting to know each other, and getting to know classroom routines and procedures.
Daily Message
- We will be getting to know the five parts of a friendly letter (heading, greeting, body, closing, and signature) during the Daily Message.
- We will discuss and locate names, capital letters. and sight words (I and can)
Word Work
- We will be reviewing and locating the letters Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, Mm, Nn, Oo, Pp, Qq, and Rr.
- We will identify, blend, and recognize syllables.
- We will spell, read, and write the sight word "can."
Wonders Comprehension
- Essential Question: How do I learn in School?
- We will sort names by syllables.
- We will sort letters and words.
- We will practice turning and talking with a partner.
- We will practice asking and answering questions about Miss Bindergarten Gets Ready for Kindergarten and Chicka, Chicka, Boom, Boom.
Writing
- We will complete sentences (I am ______. ) orally and/or written form.
Math
Counting and Quantity
- We will count and keep track.
- We will create an equivalent set.
- We will establish one-to-one correspondence between equal groups.
Sorting and Classifying
- We will identify attributes (e.g. color, size, and shape) by developing language to describe them.
- We will compare how objects are the same and different.
- We will find objects that share one attribute.
Content
Conscious Discipline
- Read Shubert is a S.T.A.R, Sometimes I'm Bombaloo, and Shubert See's the Best.
- We will identify strategies to calm down when we are angry or upset.
- We will practice calming strategies.
- We will use "tools" to manage our emotions.
- We will identify ways characters' in a story help friends.

Home Activities
Practice having your child sign into BCPS One. Usernames and Passwords will be sent home this week.
I'm Not Scared, I'm Prepared
This is the name of the book that I read to the students about what to do if there is a dangerous someone in the building. The book is written for young children and used the acronym ALICE.
A - Alert
L - Lockdown
I - Inform
C - Counter
E - Evacuate
Star Student
Scholastic Book Fair
Please send in money and the titles of the books your child would like to purchase from the book fair. We will be purchasing on Thursday. Make sure to place the money and order in an envelope with your child's name on it.
Volunteer Training
Birthday Celebration
Birthdays will be celebrated once a month in the classroom. Our designated birthday days are listed below. Children will celebrate with extra recess (3:00-3:30). Parents are invited to join us during this time.
