We're Halfway Through!
I will be sending a Sign-Up Genius email this week for parents who would like a second conference this year. This is not a mandatory conference. You only need to sign up if you have a concern, or would like to discuss your child's progress so far in fourth grade:)

Division Unit
We are continuing our division unit (with and without remainders). Students have learned the Area Model for division. Today, I showed them a new method called Partial Quotients.
Please let me know if you would like me to sit down with you and show you the methods we use for division.
I will not be teaching students long division this year. Our math standards have changed and long division (or the "good old fashioned way") has been moved to the fifth grade math curriculum. Therefore, my students will learn it next year!
It has been hard for me to adjust to this change, as I typically teach long division, but I am learning to hold off and just focus on using manipulatives, the Area Model, and Partial Quotients methods.
Please encourage your child to review multiplication and division facts. Knowing these facts make division so much easier!
Remember, www.freckle.com is a great place to practice fact fluency! Students have their class code inside their agendas.
