Falcon Newsletter- July 2022
Welcome to Hickam Elementary School!
I want to welcome you to Hickam Elementary School. Our amazing school has been in existence since 1941. Our vision is that "We commit to providing a positive learning community that will inspire leaders for tomorrow". "Our mission " or purpose "is to nurture the whole child by providing a loving learning environment and world-class education that empowers students to gain the skills, attitudes, and dispositions so each child can strive to reach their highest potential".
Every month, I will send a parent newsletter through "Smore," highlighting many of the wonderful things Hickam does and share important information with our school community. The beauty of this newsletter is that there is nothing to download. Instead, click on the link and view the newsletter from your computer, tablet, or smartphone.
In addition, our school website www.hickam.k12.hi.us serves as another invaluable resource for any questions you may have. I hope you will find this website helpful as we continue to improve our ability to communicate with you. Please use the contact button at the bottom of the page if you have any questions.
I look forward to seeing you on Thursday, July 28th at 8:30 a.m. for our Back to School Fair and Meet & Greet. Once again, I am humbled by the opportunity to serve you.
Sincerely,
Patrick Wetzel

Welcome To Kindergarten!
Kindergarten Teachers are looking forward to a great year. With Kindergarten being the first step into "big kid school," we want to ensure a positive start. Thus, Kindergarteners have a different opening schedule from their older peers. Within the first week, students will meet their teacher individually for some testing which includes some time to "get to know you." In addition, students will also have a special orientation day to meet a small group of friends and begin to learn school and classroom routines. Please see the information below. Thank you for your understanding and assistance!
Testing:
Individual student testing will take place on August 1, 2, and 3. Each child is assigned a date and time. Refer to the Kindergarten First Days Packet which will be given at the Back to School Fair/Meet & Greet on July 28 from 8:30-10:30 for your child’s specific date and time. The testing will take about 20 minutes. You may want to prepare your child by saying that he/she will be working with the teacher individually and to just try to do his/her best.
Small Group Student Orientation:
Small Group Student Orientation will take place in small groups, on August 4 and 5. Each child will come ONLY on his or her assigned day for the entire school day. Refer to the Kindergarten First Days Packet which will be given at the Back to School Fair/Meet & Greet on July 28 from 8:30-10:30 for your child’s group. The purpose of the Student Orientation is to ease the children into the routines of school in small groups.
Group A: Thursday, August 4 (7:55 am to 2:10 pm) OR
Group B: Friday, August 5 (7:55 am to 2:10 pm)
ALL Kindergarten students report to school on Monday, August 8 (7:55 am to 2:10 pm).
School Supplies:
All supplies may be brought on Meet & Greet day OR your child’s Testing Day. Label all supplies with your child’s name or initials (e.g. take pencils out of packaging and label each one).
