A Message From the Principal
Call Committee Formed for New Teachers
The Call Committee for the positions of Grades 1, 3, and 4 additional teachers (doubling each of these grades) is set! Please join us in praying for the work of this committee, which follows the biblical “call” of asking God to bless our efforts in doing a nationwide search to find the teachers that God will lead us to. This means to place them in our midst to help lead us in our mission of providing a dynamic Christian education in the local community. The committee members:
Natasha Harris, Teacher
Julie Weil, Teacher
Kelly David, Teacher
Ryan Vrabel, Teacher
Dr. Audrea Johnson, Zion Member
Paige Paul, Community Member
Kathy Pitts, Representative from the Board of Christian Education
Thomas Wrege, Principal
Call for Teacher Referrals
To refer a teacher to the Call Committee, please have them send a cover letter and resume c/o Thomas Wrege, Principal. We will also be doing a nationwide search for current teachers in other Lutheran schools, and we will also be in contact with the Concordia University System to look at new graduates.
Space for new teachers
We were not able to bring in modular units to provide extra space for next school year, but we are looking at a total inventory of current space both within our church and school campus spaces. We can make this work for next year but ask for your prayers and suggestions for the 2023-2024 school year, as we see the opportunity to have almost all grade levels doubled by this time. It is a good problem to have; thank you all for your support.
Additional hours for Special Programs
This next school year we will also need to expand upon some of our current programming, including that of Academic Success, physical education, languages, and computer classes.
National Archery in the Schools Program State Qualifiers
We had an incredible experience at the State Archery competition, with twenty-seven elementary and middle school archers competing, among over 1300 that qualified. None of our students will be able to go on to nationals, but this was our first time to be able to shoot at state, so we are more than excited for the future, as we continue to practice and improve. We just received the “top twelve” within our ranks, so please join me in congratulating them:
#12 Aslan, Grade 6
#11 Jakob, Grade 8
#10 Kayla, Grade 8
#9 Dayton, Grade 8
#8 Hannah, Grade 8
#7 Jackson, Grade 6
#6 Kyler, Grade 8
#5 Greg, Grade 5
#4 Luke, Grade 8
#3 Wyatt, Grade 7
#2 Garrett, Grade 7
#1 Caleb, Grade 8 [High Score for Zion Lutheran School]
New Web Site on the Horizon
We are ALMOST there. Give us just a couple of weeks more, and we will launch! Of course, we desire your opinion once we go LIVE.
Athletic Field Dedication
This past Friday many guests were present to participate in the dedication and ribbon-cutting for Zion’s new athletic field. To make this happen, it was a wonderful collective effort to be able provide a top-notch facility for our athletes. More improvements will continue, but please stop by and see the new brick way Walk of Honor. Special thanks to committee members Danielle Hajda, Dan Osborn, Ryan Vrabel, and Julie Cowley. There were dozens of other volunteers, too numerous to mention. How thankful we are!
Before-Care Assistance
We need an additional supervisor for our Before-Care program. This is a paid position, from 7:15 – 7:45 am. Let me know if you are interested.
Lenten Devotion Podcast
The 7th and 8th grade students have been working very hard to write, illustrate, and publish a Lenten Devotion book and podcast series to begin Wednesday, March 2. This is a little different from the Advent devotion book for last year. It is a weekly family devotional that is intended to prompt discussion and family conversations about the events leading up to Easter. The accompanying podcast episodes are also new each week and continue the story a little further. These can be enjoyed together with the devotions or listened to on their own. You can subscribe on Spotify or watch our church/school Facebook page for the weekly episode. Or just click the link below.
