About the Book
Jacob Portman, a 16 year old boy who goes to Wales, England to finds the truth about his grandfather's past after he was murdered by what Jacob believed was a make-believe creature. When he arrives in Wales he met a girl named Emma, she can control fire with her hands. Emma takes Jacob to see Miss Peregrine in a time loop set back to 1940.There Jacob meets the children that his grandfather had pictures of. Jacob is told mysterious stories of these creature called the hallows. These monsters killed Jacob's grandfather. Jacob goes to warn the kids about the hallows but he is the only one who can see them. Jacob encounters a hallow with some of the peculiar kids and he kills it. Upon return to Miss Peregrines home they realize that she had been kidnapped. The children rescue Miss Peregrine but she is in bird form and can no longer change back into a human. At the end of the story the Peculiar Children look for another time loop they can stay in because their current one has been destroyed.
Conflicts
Person v. Person: Jacob and his father argued a lot about his grandfather's death and what to do with his belongings.
Person v. Self: Jacob felt that he was loosing his mind imaging the creature that killed his grandfather until he realized it was real.
Person v. Super Natural: although there were no ghost or paranormal activity in this story the characters Emma and Miss Peregrine have un-human like abilities.
Protagonist and Antagonist
Protagonist would be Jacob since he is going through a lot of changes through this story.
Antagonist would be the hallow, because these creatures were after Jacob and the Peculiar Children.
About the Author
Ransom Riggs grew up in Florida but now makes his home for Peculiar Children- Los Angeles. Along the way he earned degrees from Kenyon College and the University of Southern California's School of Cinema-Television, got married, and had some award winning short films. This is his first novel.
