Principal's Message....
February at RCES is going to be exciting! Our next adventure will be a special project, an all-school book club called One School One Book. Each student in kindergarten-fifth grade will receive a special copy of E.B. White's Charlotte's Web, which we will be reading together at school. We will begin our reading on February 3rd at our kick-off assembly. Mr. Peterson and Mrs. Faletti will be reading the first two chapters to the whole school. The rest of the reading will be done in the classrooms by the teachers, students, and special guests throughout the month of February.
As a learning community we are very excited for our whole school to be focused around one book. Our older readers will be engaging with the text through vocabulary and summarizing activities, while our younger readers will be focused on the characters such as Fern, Wilbur, and of course, Charlotte. We will also be incorporating informational texts throughout the month to connect the story to facts about farm life, pigs, and spiders. Charlotte’s Web is easily understood and enjoyed by our younger students, but will still captivate and stimulate our older students. We will be incorporating the text into all parts of our day.
Please open the calendar of events by clicking on the link located below . The calendar contains the reading schedule, dress up days, links to special activities, and the RSVP for our RCES County Fair.
Adventures are the best way to learn! Yours begins at RCES!

RCES County Fair
Two of the events at our County Fair require some donations.
1. The RCES Cake Walk
We are asking that students in grades PreK-2nd grade bring in STORE BOUGHT cupcakes. They can be any flavor, big or mini, and covered with sprinkles of your choosing.
2. Pie Eating Contest
We are asking that students in grades 3-5 bring in a can of Ready-Whip or container of Cool Whip for our pie eating contest.
We will start collecting cupcakes and whip cream on 2/10 and continue to collect these supplies until the morning of the fair 2/18. We really appreciate any donations! Thank you!
Look Who's Reading Charlotte's Web- Community Involvement
As part of our larger community of readers, several local businesses and other places in town are showing support for our all-school book club. When students visit these local places they can find our poster and sign their name. After students sign the poster they can visit the counter and get a ticket to bring back to school. Each student has a game board for these tickets. Once students have 5 tickets on their game board, they can turn these in to the office. We will use these game boards to draw weekly winners.
The following places will have our poster and tickets available for our students;
Dairy Queen, CVS, RCHS Field House, McDonald's, Berkot's, Whitmore ACE Hardware, Dollar General, Fossil Ridge Library, Braidwood Post Office and Braidwood City Hall.
RCES Kids Care
Ronald McDonald House Charities
RCES is collecting Pop Tabs for the Ronald McDonald House!
Collecting pop tabs is a great way to teach kids about philanthropy and the importance of recycling while raising funds to help children and their families at the same time. Little things make a big difference. You can help support the Ronald McDonald Houses of Chicagoland & Northwest Indiana (RMHC-CNI) by donating the tabs you pull to open soda, soup and other aluminum cans. The funds generated from our Pop Tab Program help support their program.
