Knight Families,

Well, the sun is shining now - but it definitely didn't look BRIGHT this morning! Thanks for understanding and supporting the Field Day shift to Monday, May 16th. This allows our students and community to get the full day experience after a long and challenging year.

This week we had our STAR AND DILLY BAR celebration. Students were able to celebrate the growth they have made on assessments and for giving their best effort. It was so amazing to see smiles and cheers as students were excited for their accomplishments.

Next week, we close out our school year. Through the challenges, we have still MOVED MOUNTAINS and I am so grateful for the success of each child, teacher, and our community this year.

A reminder that the Talent Show is Wednesday and the last day for K-6 is Thursday with dismissal at 12:30. We look forward to end of the year celebrations and finishing strong!

Have a wonderful weekend,

Anna Jensen

Principal

We look forward to providing many of Benninghoven's annual events, programs, and activities for the 2022-2023 school year! To do that we need MANY hands. The open PTA Board positions include:

  • VP, Student Programs: This person gets to work on all programs relating directly to the wonderful Benninghoven students. This person oversees the following programs that all have committee leads. Science enrichment, Citizenship and Reflections programs, assemblies, head room parents, picture days, Kansas Day, etc.
  • Secretary: This person is responsible for taking minutes at all PTA meetings, coordinating childcare for the meetings and helping with correspondence. It's great for someone who enjoys administrative tasks.

BUS TRANSPORTATION FOR 22-23 SCHOOL YEAR

In the 2022-23 school year qualifying to receive free busing will no longer be determined by the House Economic Survey. We will be following the process we had pre-pandemic. Students who qualify for the Federal Meal Program are able to enroll to ride an existing route at no cost.

Anyone, other than those that qualify to receive Special Education Transportation, must enroll for busing through DS Bus Lines. A Spanish version has been added to the bus enrollment website. DS Bus Lines website.

FOOD SERVICE INFO FOR 22-23 SCHOOL YEAR (REPEAT)

2022-23 SCHOOL MEALS:

Food Service will continue to offer healthy and appealing breakfast and lunch options for all students next school year. Unfortunately, the USDA nationwide waivers allowing for free school meals for all students will conclude with the end of the 2021-22 school year.

The meal prices for 2022-23 are BELOW:

Families will be able to complete a child nutrition meal benefit application to see if they qualify for free or reduced priced meals. Per USDA regulations, the meal benefit application cannot be completed prior to July 1. The information and link regarding the meal benefit application will be a part of the parent online verification process as well as be available on the Food Service web page after July 1, 2022. Food Service encourages families to apply as soon as the application is available in July so any meal benefits families qualify for will be processed by the start of the 2022-23 school year.

Families are encouraged to check their student’s current food service account balance on School Café - https://www.schoolcafe.com/SHAWNEEMISSION. Payments to a student’s food service account can be done by check or cash at the school, credit card online through eFunds ($3 fee) or by calling the Food Service office (no fee). Student account balances (positive or negative) do roll over to the next year – even if the student switches schools within the district.

Food Service will continue to follow the procedure of serving students a full breakfast or a full lunch regardless of the money they have in their account. During the 2022-23 school year, when a student’s account is low or in the negative, notifications will be made to parents. When an account is -$75.00, the parent/guardian will receive a notification that if the account is not paid it will be turned over to the collection agency. Students will not be permitted to purchase ala carte items if their account is negative.
