What's Happening in October

Dear Families,

Hope everyone has enjoyed the first month of preschool and I’d like to tell you what we will be doing during the month of October. Our themes this month are leaves and pumpkins. Our color of the month is orange and our shape of the month is square. We will be exploring with leaves and pumpkins throughout the month as we transition into the season of fall and use them to count, sort, and practice size concepts (Math). We will also make pumpkin seed letters (Literacy and Art). Using a variety of art materials, we will create pumpkins and explore with yellow and red to make orange (Science and Art). We will explore with our senses with real pumpkins. (Science) Lastly, we will explore the similarities and differences in leaf shapes and make leaf rubbings (Art/Science).

During the month we will be reading a variety of books related to our themes for this month and be on the look out for this months book order forms from Scholastic (Due back Oct. 20th). This time of the year is great for going on walks and exploring and remember if you find any leaves while out exploring, please bring them in to share! Please note there are October poems/fingerplays on the back of this newsletter that we will be doing in the classroom.
