What we've done and what we plan to do in December!
Becoming Better Readers!
Comprehension Skills
As we wrap up Reading for the fall, the Kindergarten teachers are impressed with the progress all students have made since the beginning of the year! Take a look at some of the activities we have done in our classrooms to help us become better readers.
We can also compare and contrast books written by the same author. We used the QR Code Reader on the iPad to listen to other Karma Wilson books. We learned that they all have the same main character and supporting characters, same setting, and similar text.
Non-Fiction Texts
When we get back to school in November, Kindergarten will be comparing our Bear stories to non-fiction texts about bears and other animals that hibernate in the winter. Students will find and use non-fiction text features such as:
- Table of Contents
- Photo Captions
- Bold Words
- Glossary
- Index
Math in the Real World
Sorting, Graphing, and Comparing Data
In math this month, students practiced sorting and re-sorting objects by color, shape, and size. On our field trip to Perkiomen Watershed Conservancy, we sorted fall leaves by color and then learned how to graph our results back in the classroom! Students then reviewed greater than, less than, equal, how many more, and how many less.
Art Room Collection
Mrs. Wright does amazing art projects with Chesterbrook students! Please consider saving some of the following items to help plan her upcoming projects:
- small boxes (cereal and snack size)
- any other small cardboard or plastic containers
- large empty cans or flower pots
- baby food jars with lids
Any items can be sent in with your child and we will pass them on to Mrs. Wright. Thank you for your contributions!
