RHS Writers Continue to Shine
- Emily Fisher and Abby Tyrrell have been selected as two of Hill-Stead Museum's Fresh Voices Finalists for 2019! The Fresh Voices Poetry Competition is open to all New England high school students. All of the finalists will read their work before a panel of judges at the Hill-Stead Museum on May 10th. The winners will have the opportunity to read at the Sunken Garden Poetry Festival in August. Please congratulate them on this prestigious honor. Their poetry portfolios are exceptional.
- Congratulations to Cori Diaz, who is a winner in the Write Here, Write Now! ten-minute high school playwriting competition and student play festival. This annual competition gathers scripts from high schools across New England. Cori will work with a Trinity Repertory Company staff member in one-on-one play development sessions prior to having her piece performed by professionally trained actors on May 21 at the Trinity Rep Theater in Providence, RI.
- Nate Rivera, Chelsea Koss, Abby Tyrrell, and Cori Diaz have been chosen to attend the prestigious Champlain College Young Writers’ Conference in Burlington Vermont. The event, which runs May 25-27th 2019 gathers the best young writers from New England and New York to offer them a chance to learn with renowned fiction writers, essayists, poets, playwrights, song lyricists, professors and fellow high school students. Each year, admission is highly competitive and dependent on the applicants’ writing abilities.
- Three of Abby Tyrrell's poems will be published in the May edition of The Girls Write the World International Literary Journal. What an incredible achievement!
- Venecia Fultz and Ashton Stansel represented RHS in the CT Slam Team Finals in Manchester on Sunday. Congratulations to Venecia Fultz and RHS Alum Luke Perkins who made the 2019 ConneticWord National Youth Slam Team. They will be part of a slam team of five that will travel to the Brave New Voices Festival in Las Vegas this July.
- Cori Diaz's play, Sabotage has been selected to be part of the O'Neill Theater Center's 2019 Young Playwrights Festival. During the Young Playwrights Festival, student playwrights spend two days working collaboratively with a professional creative team consisting of a director, dramaturg, and actors to explore, revise and develop their plays, bringing their written words to life. The festival will culminate with a script-in-hand public reading of the students' work on Sunday, May 12 in the Dina Merrill Theater, Eugene O'Neill Theater Center, 305 Great Neck Road, Waterford; the performance is free and open to the public.

May Events
Dear Parents,
We are so excited for senior prom at Saint Clements Castle on May 10th! Several parents have called to request school-based transportation to and from prom. While we do not have money in the Class of 2019’s account to pay for this through school funds, we would be happy to coordinate a coach bus for students if parents are willing to contribute to this endeavor.
We would need at least 50 students/parents to commit to this effort in order for it to be financially feasible. We would need to charge $30 per child to pay for the bus. If you are interested in taking part in this, please send me your information via the following link.
Please send the money in by Monday if you’re interested. If we do not have enough participation, I will return the funds to your child.
Sincerely,
Diana Schultz
