Winter Weather…..It’s Getting Colder

It seems as winter has finally arrived (of course, who knows for sure in Michigan). With the colder temperatures, it is very important that students are dressed appropriately while waiting at the bus stop and for recess. On days when the temperature reaches 0 degrees or below, students will stay inside for recess. This is also true if there is heavy (soaking) precipitation (rain, snow, etc.)

Please plan to have your child prepared with a pair of winter boots, snow pants, winter coat, gloves, and a hat. If you need assistance with these items, please let your child’s teacher know. We want all of our students to be dressed appropriately warm for the winter weather.

Essential Learnings This Month

Mathematicians fluently add and subtract numbers with decimals and fractions. Students are able to estimate to help solve equations.

Language Arts

Readers are able choose informational texts at their independent level, with high interest. Writers are able to write informational texts to share facts and teach others. Students also studied over break for our annual spelling bee. The winner will represent North Sashabaw in the next round.

Scientists are asking questions and investigating the idea of heredity. We are working on an Investigation titled, "Teddy Bears come in Pairs."

Social Studies

We're finishing up studying the history of the three "worlds." Up next, we're going to focus specifically on European expansion into North America as we put our "historian" hats on and learn about the settling of early America.
