TERM DATES
Please check the community calendar for upcoming and future dates as the calendar is regularly updated.
FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Bishop's Visit
We were honoured to have Bishop Don Sproxton visit our school today and enjoy morning tea with the staff and a tour of the classrooms and school.
He was extremely impressed with the close relationship between the school and the parish and commented on the wonderful work of the Leadership Team. He was amazed at the great teaching and learning occurring in our school and commented on the children's lovely manners and behaviour.
This Sunday 14 August, 11.00am Bishop Don will celebrate a special mass for PCPS families and parishioners.
We have children, parents and staff involved with the mass - reading, offertory, collections and welcomers as well as a special Liturgical Dance performed by some of our senior students.
After mass there will be a delicious Chinese lunch for everyone to enjoy.
To represent our school and to demonstrate our school unity, families are asked to attend with students wearing the school uniform. Students who attend in their uniform will be able to wear free dress to school on Monday 15th August.
Father Cyprian warmly extends an invitation to all PCPS families to come along and attend the mass and join in the lunch afterwards.
Assumption of Mary
On 15 August we celebrate the Assumption of Mary. As a fitting reward for the life she dedicated so wonderfully to God, Mary, the mother of Jesus, was taken up to Heaven, body and soul, when she died. Father Francis will be celebrating mass at 2pm in our school hall on this day and all parents and families are invited to join us.
Extra Curricula
Edu dance is well and truly underway this term with the children thoroughly enjoying expressing themselves and unleashing their creativity through the medium of dance. We look forward to the concerts later in the term.
As part of the Extension Programme, preparation for the Tournament of the Minds competition has commenced. It is a great opportunity to solve authentic, open-ended challenges that foster creative, divergent thinking whilst developing collaborative enterprise, excellence and teamwork. A big thank you to Mrs Bottega for all her hard work with the children.
The Catholic Performing Arts Festival is underway with many children from our school showcasing their talents. Big thankyou to Mrs Twine our Music Teacher for co ordinating our entrants especially our school choir.

CURRICULUM
DJOOROOBIDINY
After the HUGE success of our Aboriginal Peoples' Exhibition - Djooroobidiny - in 2020, this year we are again holding an exhibition highlighting the work that classes throughout PCPS have completed in embedding Aboriginal perspectives into the curriculum.
Earlier in the year, due to uncertainty with possible Covid restrictions, the decision was made to hold a virtual Djooroobidiny Exhibition in 2022,through a special website.
We invite you to spend some time exploring with your child our PCPS 2022 Djooroobidiny website, which showcases a huge amount of AMAZING work done by our students and their teachers. Enjoy!
Book Week
We will be holding a Book Week Dress Up day for students next week on Wednesday 24th August. We encourage all students to come dressed up as a character from a book of their choice. We will hold a dress up parade at 9:00am on this day. We look forward to seeing plenty of creative costumes! This year's theme is 'Dreaming with eyes open.'

Jake Merry (Year 6) entered the Rotary Public Speaking Competition "The 4-Way Test of the things we think, say or do." Jake competed against students from Edgewater Primary School and gave a great speech about Water Safety. He won second prize! Congratulations Jake!!
SUSTAINABILITY
Garden Gurus
The Garden Gurus would like to report that the Veggie Garden planted mid Term 2 is now producing. We have an array of lettuce, broccolini, radish, snow peas and our tomatoes, spinach and strawberries are coming along nicely.
It took a little bit of work to get it up and running. We cultivated the soil, added some soil conditioner, fertiliser, and some black marvel to ensure we had nice rich beds to grow our vegetables. We purchased seedlings and some blood and bone to keep the soil rich.
Planting the seedings was fun. We tried to keep our seedings in lines as we planted them and even had a go at organising our planting, keeping our broccoli and Brussel sprouts together, herbs together and lettuce varieties in one bed.
We take turn watering the plants and even have a chat with them as we’re walking by.
It’s very rewarding watching them grow. Hopefully we get to enjoy our produce very soon.
From The Padbury Garden Gurus.

National Cross Country Championships August 25 - 29
Congratulations to Elijah Griffiths (Year 6) and Scarlett Marr (Year 5) on being selected to compete at the upcoming National Cross-Country Championships. These students qualified to compete for Western Australia after racing earlier in the Year. The competition will take place in Adelaide with races to be held at Oakbank racecourse. Both students will compete in a 3km race and a relay event.
It is a great opportunity to represent their school and state and we wish them all the luck as they race against the best runners in the country.
I have also been selected to go as a coach/manager and I am looking forward to cheering on our two sensational athletes in Adelaide. 96 students from Western Australia are taking part in the championships.
Best of luck Elijah and Scarlett.
