How to make the perfect scones
Scones? I love them!
Scones are usually make of wheat, barley or oatmeal.
British scones are often lightly sweetened but can also be savoury. Which can include raisins, currents, cheese or dates.
There is also fruit scones which contains currants, sultanas, or glace cherries etc.Which is just like a plain round scone with the fruit kneaded into the dough.
Scones are now recognised all over the world, different countries adapt their culture into making the perfect scone :)
This is a kneading technique
This is one of many ways to make scones :)
Ingredients
225g/8oz self raising flour
pinch of salt
55g/2oz butter
25g/1oz caster sugar
150ml/5fl oz milk
1 free-range egg, beaten, to glaze (alternatively use a little milk
Step1: Heat the oven to 220C/425F/Gas 7.
Step2: Mix together the flour and salt and rub in the butter.
Step3:Stir in the sugar and then the milk to get a soft dough.
Step4:Place the mixture on a floured work surface and knead very lightly, Pat it out into a circle around 2cm thick. Use any size cutter to stamp out shapes and place on a baking tray. If there is a small amount of dough left over, be creative, maybe make a 'mini scone' hehe.
Step5: Brush the tops of the scones with a beaten egg or milk. Bake for 12-15 minutes until they are well risen and golden.
Step6:Place them on a rack until they have cooled. Then Fill them or Decorate them!
