Message from Jeff and Yolanda
This past week Darlene Crete, John Monda and Yolanda attended the Council on Occupational Education (COE) Annual Meeting. COE is the accrediting body for career and technical education educational institutions. COE seeks to embrace a commitment of integrity and credibility from schools like LWTC which has been accredited for over thirty years.
Some of the objectives of COE include:
To foster excellence in the field of career and technical education by establishing standards and guidelines for evaluating institutional effectiveness.
To encourage institutions to view self-assessment and evaluation as a continuous quality improvement process.
To ensure that the standards, policies, and procedures developed demonstrate recognition of and respect for the diversity of institutional missions.
To ensure that the standards, policies, and procedures developed advance quality, creativity, cooperation, and performance.
In essence they promote self-reflection and continuous improvement in the work we do every day in our career and technical programs. Schools who are not continuously improving or living up to the standards of COE can be put on probation or lose accreditation. Although the re-accreditation process typically happens every six years, LWTC is required to submit an annual report which includes enrollment, licensure and job placement data for each program. Failure to meet the standard for any program, triggers an improvement plan for each program. The Annual Report is due to COE December 5th and we will share with you upon completion.
