STEM Education
In Sheldon ISD--Getting our students ready for the future!
What is STEM?
A curriculum based on the idea of educating students in four specific disciplines--Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics--in an interdisciplinary and applied approach.
Why is STEM important?
“In the 21st century, scientific and technological innovations have become increasingly important as we face the benefits and challenges of both globalization and a knowledge-based economy. To succeed in this new information-based and highly technological society, students need to develop their capabilities in STEM to levels much beyond what was considered acceptable in the past.” http://engineeringforkids.com/article/02-02-2016_importanceofstem

The Sheldon ISD STEM Plan
Beginning with the 2017-2018 school year, we will implement a 7th grade STEM academy at both C. E. King Middle School and Null Middle School. Each campus will accept 60 students into this program. In the years to follow, we will continue to add more grade levels and more students to this ongoing educational endeavor to expose our students to innovative programs in the areas of Computer Science, Robotics and more. Our goal is to have our students equipped to be the next generation's innovators and problem-solvers. Contact your child's counselor for more information on this outstanding opportunity to prepare your child for the careers of the future.
