SLS is preparing to migrate 9 new districts to the W-FL Follett Destiny Community and is excited to share information about upcoming summer reading programs and initiatives. We will be hosting the end of year Council/CC meeting at St. John Fisher College on June 5th, all school librarians are welcome to attend!

AASL Standards for Elementary

Penn Yan Elementary Librarian Rachel Knapton attended the NYLA/SSL Leadership Institute in August 2018 and has since put together information and insights to share with her W-FL peers around her experience at the Institue and how she has started to implement the AASL standards for her (little) learners! Connecting with Artists: May 10

Participants will be able to interact with visiting artists and performers to learn more about their services while also having the opportunity to see some of these performers live and in-person. Participants will have an opportunity to develop deeper connections with these artists based on first-hand experience to support bringing visiting artists into local school districts.

Join WXXI Education’s Cara Rager as she shares free tools and program ideas that are available from the public media world. From film screening and discussion kits to radio listening parties to citizen science projects available for patrons to participate in – there are lots of ways to use PBS and public media content in your programming!

HS to College Supporting Student Success: May 22

Join us for this full-day conference where you’ll have the opportunity to learn from your colleagues as we talk about ways to help our students successfully transition from high school to college. This conference will feature breakouts, panels, and poster sessions, with plenty of time for one-on-one conversations and making connections with educators from around the region.

Ready, Set, Kindergarten & School Readiness: May 23

At this session, you'll be introduced to Brooklyn Public Library's time-tested school-readiness storytime, Ready, Set, Kindergarten! At these parent workshops and storytimes rolled into one, learn how to explore math, science, and literacy through song, play, and art with children 3-5 years. Each attendee with received storytime materials to assist in School-readiness storytimes at their own library.
