CMS Media Center News
Carmel Middle School
March 2018
- The months of December, January, and February saw an average of over 100 students in the Media Center with passes during the school day. Students typically visit the Media Center with a pass to check out, return, or renew materials, use the computer lab, pick up printed items, and submit 3D printing designs.
- An average of 3,034 items circulated each month. With a focus on reading workshop and time to read during Core+, our students are unstoppable readers!
- 30 students are now eligible to vote for the Young Hoosier Book Award winner in May. More details are farther down in this newsletter.
I look forward to more celebrations and events this spring. Read below for details!
Young Hoosier Book Award Contest Update
Currently, Team 7-1 is in the lead of the team contest. Team 8-1 is in second place, with Team 6-1 hot on their heels in third place.
You can access the list of nominees and tracking form link here.
Keep Up on Due Dates
The good news, however, is that students can check their accounts any time, from any computer! Stay up to date by following the these directions.
Students do not even have to go in to the Media Center to return materials - during the morning rush or if the Media Center is closed for testing, the hallway book return is always an option.
3D Printing is Hot in the Media Center
Not sure where to begin? I suggest using Tinkercad. If your child is under 13, you will need to approve their account (be sure to check your junk or spam folder - the link often ends up there). For more information, see the links here.
Check out some of the 3D printed student creations below!

Spring Library Celebrations and Events
- March 14-15: author Aaron Galvin will be visiting our 7th grade during their Language Arts class time in the Media Center! Click here to visit Mr. Galvin's website.
- April is School Library Month!
- April 9-13 (the week we return from Spring Break) is National Library Week. There will be lots of celebrations and giveaways throughout the week!
- The Scholastic Book Fair will return to the Media Center for a three-day victory lap, May 9 - May 11. This is a school-day only fair (no family event), so students should come prepared to purchase during those three days. More information will be distributed in Language Arts classes closer to the fair.
