April is Child Abuse Prevention Awareness Month
National Child Abuse Prevention Month recognizes the importance of families and communities working together to strengthen families to prevent child abuse and neglect. Through this collaboration, prevention services and supports help protect children and produce thriving families.
The 2021/2022 Prevention Resource Guide recognizes that there are actions we can take as a society and within communities, organizations, and families to address the root causes of child abuse and neglect. The child abuse prevention guide seeks to highlight the innovative ways that communities around the country are doing purposeful prevention work to help children and families thrive.
The protective factors have always been central to the Resource Guide. A protective factors approach focuses on positive ways to engage families by emphasizing their strengths, in addition to identifying areas where they have room to grow with support. Focusing on protective factors helps children, youth, and families build resilience and contributes to positive outcomes.
"If you see something, say something,’ can be applied to identifying child abuse. Perhaps you notice something out of the ordinary, such as a change in a child’s demeanor or behavior, or you have a gut feeling that something is not right. These could be signs of child abuse.
Together we can create awareness stand up against child abuse.

COVID-19 Update
COVID-19 Testing Fact Sheet
County Health has developed a fact sheet (bilingual) related to COVID-19 exposure and testing, based on frequent questions they are receiving from schools and the community. Specifically, this fact sheet is in response to parent questions about testing and that multiple tests have led to confusion about the infected status of their child. County Health's hope is that this resource can be shared with any families hesitant or skeptical about testing.
COVID-19 Testing PSAs
To help spread the word about the importance of testing, SCOE has developed these student and family friendly videos that we invite you to share with your school community in an e-newsletter, over social media, or post on your website.

YouthTruth Survey Window is Here!
Our survey will provide insight into the current experience of our students, staff and families. Student and stakeholder voice matters. On-the-ground insights from the survey will provide the District with the information needed for planning, professional development and improvement processes in the upcoming school year.
Students grades third through sixth will complete the survey this week during their hybrid in person instruction or during their distance learning synchronous instruction times. Certificated staff will have time to complete the survey as a school site on April 21st from 3:30 to 4:00 after the NAAC Listening Session. Classified staff will work with their site leaders to complete the survey during their work day. Families will also complete the survey during the week, as well.
As a reminder, the survey window is April 19th– 30th. Thank you!
April is Child Abuse Prevention Month
Since the spring of 1989, community members throughout the country have worn blue as a symbol of the need to prevent child abuse and neglect in the month of April. National Child Abuse Prevention Month recognizes the importance of families and communities working together to strengthen families to prevent child abuse and neglect. Through this collaboration, prevention services and supports help protect children and produce thriving families.
Last year there were 4,439 reports of child abuse made in Sonoma County. Of those reports, 459 cases of child abuse were substantiated — over 1 child per day becoming a confirmed victim of abuse and neglect.
The mission at the Child Parent Institute (CPI) in Sonoma County is to end child abuse and strengthen the health of children, parents, and families. CPI uses April, National Child Abuse Prevention Month, to advocate and bring awareness to the issues of child abuse in our community.
Join CPI for a free Blue Ribbon event next Thursday, April 22 to find out how you can get involved. Visit www.calparents.org/blueribbon to register today!
