DSHS CX DEBATE TEAM WINS DISTRICT TITLE
The Dripping Springs High School CX Debate team captured the District 26-5A title for the second consecutive year on Tuesday, Jan. 25.
DSHS defeated Kerrville Tivy, Johnson and Boerne Champion High Schools for the district crown. Senior Katherine Mihaly and junior Johnny Martinez placed first to advance to the UIL State Tournament. Mihaly will make her second appearance at the state competition after finishing as state runner-up with teammate Jackson Kaiser in 2021.
The team of senior Eli Craddock and sophomore Zoe Costanza placed third at the district meet, and sophomore Jackson Berthelsen and freshman Claire Bynum finished fourth.
The UIL CX Debate State Tournament will be held Mar. 18-19 at the University of Texas at Austin.
43 DSHS DECA STUDENTS QUALIFY FOR STATE
A school-record 43 Dripping Springs High School students qualified for the state DECA competition based on their performances at the district meet on Saturday, Jan. 22, at Cedar Ridge High School in Round Rock. A total of 63 DSHS students competed at the district event. The 43 state qualifiers surpassed the previous school record of 33 set in 2020.
The state competition is scheduled for Feb. 24-26 in Houston.
DECA prepares emerging leaders and entrepreneurs in marketing, finance, hospitality and management in high schools and colleges around the globe.

CONGRATULATIONS TO OUR SPELLING BEE CHAMPIONS!
Dripping Springs ISD middle and elementary schools crowned spelling bee champions in January. Each winner will now have the opportunity to take the Scripps online spelling test for a chance to advance to the Austin Regional Spelling Bee in March.

DSISD ATHLETIC TICKETS
The Dripping Springs ISD Athletic Department is using online ticketing exclusively for high school and middle school events for the 2021-22 school year. Tickets can be purchased on the DSISD website here or by downloading the HomeTown Fan app on iTunes or Google Play. The HomeTown Fan app allows fans to make advance purchases for DSISD home athletic events.
In addition, student ($25) and adult ($50) season athletic passes are also available for purchase through the DSISD webstore for home events. These passes cover both middle and high school home athletic events for the 2021-22 school year. Student passes are for secondary students only. After purchase, students must take their 2021-22 student ID card to their campus receptionist to receive a sticker that goes on the back of their student ID.

SCHOOL BOARD CANDIDATE ACADEMY
An informational School Board Candidate Academy will be held Thursday, Feb. 3, at 6 p.m. in the DSISD Central Office Board Room where Superintendent Dr. Holly Morris-Kuentz will share information about the role and responsibilities of Board members, and answer questions. Attending the meeting does not commit an individual to running for a trustee seat; it is informational in nature.
The deadline to file an application to be a DSISD Board of Trustees candidate for the May 2022 election is Friday, Feb. 18. More information can be found here.
