Requirements
- at least 35 years of age
- native born American citizen
- have lived in the US for at least 14 years
The president acts as a living symbol of the United States
Roles of the President
- Chief Executive is in charge of 15 cabinet departments and is the boss of approximatley 3 million federal workers. This gives the president the power to enact an Executive Order where they rule or command that has the force of law. This is for the president to influence how laws are carried out.
- Chief Diplomat is the role of directing foreign policy and making key decisions about how the US interacts with other countries.
- Commander in Chief is the head of the armed forces. This means the president is in charge of the army, navy, air force, marines, and coast guard. Only the president can order American Soldiers into battle.
- Legislative Leader must sign bills into law and can veto bills. The president also has a legislative program and gives the Congress the legislative agenda in the anual State of the Union Address.
- Head of State is a ceremnial role where the president represents America at special occassions and ceremonies. The president is a living symbol of the United States and its people.
- Economic Leader deals with several economic issues such as unemployment rates, inflation, high taxes, and plans the federal government's budget. The president also meets with budget officials. The ultimate goal is to improve and help the economy of the country.
- Party Leader is viewed as the leader of their political party and selects the party's national chairperson and raise money and funds for the party.
