Selecting Courses for 2018-2019 School year
With SO many choices available to students today, it can be difficult to navigate the best route through High School. This newsletter is aimed at helping high school students navigate the wide variety of options available to them through Berrien Springs Public Schools. Many of our amazing opportunities have applications - each application is attached to download and complete OR is available at the front desk of the school.
In short, there are five main pathways
In short, there are five main pathways
- Traditional four years of High School - graduation = 29 credits
- 4 years: Math and Science Center - mornings at Andrews University - college credits built in (Apply in 8th grade)
- Traditional four years with the added benefit of taking Career and Technical Education during 11th and 12th grade. Some programs include college credit, many offer built-in graduation requirements.
- Traditional four years with the added benefit of Dual Enrollment through LMC, SMC, or Andrews University (Dual Enrollment begins in 11th grade). Many students earn 18-30 credits while in High School.
- Extend "High School" for 1 year through the Early Middle College Program. College begins part time in 11th grade, part time in 12th, and full time in 13th. Students graduate with roughly 60 credits and their High School Diploma.
PLTW Courses - Project Lead the Way! Open to next year's 9th - 12th graders
We have an amazing PLTW space for learning - STEM central. This beautiful facility was purchased and renovated for the purpose of project-based learning in STEM. Currently, we offer Biomedical, Engineering, and Computer Science courses. We highly recommend students take advantage of this amazing learning opportunity. This application is due back to the High School guidance office by January 31, 2018 - DO NOT DELAY IF YOU ARE INTERESTED! Check out this link for more information.
Next year's 9th graders. Class of 2022
Please see the files below describing the courses that you may take at the high school. IF you want any seated class at the high school, you must put in your course request to Mrs. Stout ASAP. In high school, you will be taking 8 courses - this may seem like a LOT. Consider blending your schedule:
- A few online courses
- A few seated courses
- A course that you personally design in an area of interest (Community Opportunities)
Next year's 10th graders - Early Middle College Aps DUE Jan 19 - no extensions allowed
Everything you need is HERE. On the right is the application. Again, this is DUE in the High School office by January 19 - THIS FRIDAY - no exceptions!

Did you miss the meeting before Christmas break covering courses for next year? Are you interested in Career and Tech Ed OR Dual Enrollment? Please see the videos below for the information from the meeting AND the attached form for CTE. THIS FORM IS DUE BACK TO SCHOOL ASAP FOR CAREER AND TECHNICAL EDUCATION!
