Charles Hay World School IB

WELCOME TO A NEW SCHOOL YEAR!

Hello Hay Families!

Welcome to the 2022-2023 school year! I hope everyone is having a wonderful summer! I am honored and excited to be the leader of Charles Hay and to be a part of this hardworking, dedicated and caring community. Through collaboration, we will accomplish great things this year for our students. The past few years of education have been difficult during the pandemic, but I am committed to always doing what is best for students. I know each and every student at Hay is capable, unique and will rise to the expectations we set for them.

A quick introduction about myself in case you missed it in the Spring: I have been in education for 17 years. I am an educator because I am passionate about finding ways to enhance learning experiences for each and every student. I began my career as a middle school math teacher in the Adams 12 School District. As a teacher, I learned the importance of believing in students, building trusting relationships, and holding them to high expectations. After seven years, I was hired to be part of a core team to open a new STEM Magnet School in Adams 12. I worked at STEM Launch for four years as a teacher, Instructional Coach and STEM Coordinator. This experience ignited my passion for inquiry-based instruction and giving students multiple outlets to showcase their creativity and knowledge. I completed a program through the University of Denver’s Educational Leadership & Policy Studies Principal Licensure Program while in Adams 12 as well. After completing the program, I was hired as an Assistant Principal at Crawford Elementary in Aurora Public Schools, which is where I was for the past six years. During my time at Crawford, I learned so much about community involvement, building systems of support and engaging students in relevant topics. I am also a mom of three (ages 10 and 8 year old twins). We love to play games, watch Iowa Hawkeye sports, and play basketball. This summer we were privileged enough to get to go to Italy, Greece and Germany to vacation and visit my sister. It was a wonderful experience.

Besides myself, we have a lot of new staff members this year. All of the knowledge and passion our new staff members are bringing to us will add to the expertise of our returning staff members!

Please welcome the following new staff members to Hay:

  • Beth Wells, Dean

  • Ashley Noonan, 1st grade

  • Rebecca Gallogly, 3rd grade

  • Heather Graves, 3rd grade

  • David Baldwin, 5th grade

  • Alanna Williss, 6th grade

  • Dora Hays, Spanish Teacher

  • Allison Leggieri, Speech Language Pathologist

  • Ana Alicia Ramirez, School Psychologist

  • Angela Pearson, AN Paraprofessional

  • Jane Yang, Special Education Paraprofessional

We also have some returning teachers that will be taking on new roles this year:

  • Danielle Cambareri, Kindergarten

  • Jameson Forester, 5th grade

This year we will continue to provide students with a quality IB education where they engage in relevant learning and help to improve our community. After a few years of inconsistent education due to the pandemic, we will also continue to work on making sure we have consistent routines, procedures and systems in place to ensure every student is safe, cared for and enjoys coming to school each day!

School Supplies and Other Resources

Charles Hay 22/23 School Supply List
Please check your school's website for the school supply list. If you need assistance with purchasing school supplies, the Englewood Family Resource Center will have an open house on Wednesday, August 3 from 10:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m. with school supplies, food, hygiene items, diapers and more available for free. The resource center is located at 300 W. Chenango Ave. and has an open house the first Wednesday of every month. If you are unable to attend the open house and need school supplies, please reach out to clarice_fortunato@engschools.net.

COVID Protocols for 2022-2023

Following the lead of public health agencies, Englewood Schools will no longer be tracking COVID cases or symptoms or notifying parents of an exposure. Students who are ill should not come to school, and if a student becomes ill at school, they will be sent home. If a student or staff member tests positive for COVID-19, they should stay home from school or work for at least 5 days and then wear a mask while around others for the following 5 days. Use the "How Sick is Too Sick" (here in Spanish) to determine if your child is well enough to come to school.

UNIVERSAL FREE MEALS HAVE EXPIRED FOR THE 22/23 SCHOOL YEAR.

On August, 10, 2022, students will be charged for lunch unless they qualify for free or reduced-price meals. We are encouraging families to apply for meal benefits for the 2022–2023 school year (before August 10, 2022) to ensure negative balances do not accrue on students' accounts.

Breakfast and lunch menus can be found at www.englewoodeats.com.

UNIVERSAL FREE MEALS HAVE EXPIRED

Because of the COVID-19 pandemic, meals have been free for all students for the past two school years based on funding from the federal government. The program has expired, which means meals are no longer automatically free, except for preschool students. To qualify for free or reduced price meals, families will need to fill out a free or reduced price lunch application through the Infinite Campus parent portal. (After logging in to Infinite Campus, select "More" and then "Meal Benefits".)

More information about school meals, pricing and paying for lunches will be available after the Board of Education discusses meal prices at its August 2 meeting.
