Counselor Connection
Mrs. Casey Smith (2nd-5th) and Ms. Lisa Wiernik (K & 1st) are leading classroom guidance lessons introducing themselves and their roles as Elementary School Counselors. The remainder of classroom lessons in September will be on growth mindset. Counselors will be in all classrooms every other week to teach character education/SEL lessons based on monthly themes. K through 2nd grade lessons are 30 minutes, 3rd-5th are 45 minutes long. School Counselors are available to ALL students everyday! Staff and parents are always welcome to visit, call, or make appointments with the counselors for any support or help with your concerns.
Our parenting tip this month is how to ask your child about their day at school without actually asking “how was your day?” Use this link to check out 20 other ways to ask your child about their day. https://docs.google.com/document/d/1cYW48QfFttS5Ape-Z5bCPa-58drkRAJWW0_baVw90M4/edit?usp=sharing
Kiss and Go Drop Off & Pick Up Reminders
7:55 - 8:15 is student drop off time.
Students should be in class before 8:15 am. If they arrive after the 8:15 am bell and are not in their classroom they will be considered tardy.
Arrival Drop Off:
Drivers should remain in their cars as students get out of the vehicles on the side closest to the sidewalk. Please do not let students out of vehicles on the driver side. Also students should not be dropped off until your vehicle is along the sidewalk directly in front of the school. Please pull up following the staff giving directions. We want to work together to get out as many students as we can safely, while keeping the traffic moving.
If you need to assist your child(ren) or they cannot be let out on the passenger side you will need to park and walk to the crosswalk area. You will need to wait with your child(ren) until a staff member can direct them across the street safely. No student should be dropped off at the crosswalk area without an adult. This is to ensure their safety until they can be supervised by a staff member to cross over.
3:00 - 3:15 is students pick up time.
End of the Day Dismissal Pick Up:
Please display the bright orange sign as you drive into the school parking lot. Staff read the signs to call students to come outside. Please follow the directions given by staff so we can get as many students we can safely to come out to be picked up. If you need one or more orange signs we have then available. You can ask the teacher to send one home or stop by the office and we can bring one out to you.
Safety Reminders:
- Parents/guardians should not be getting out their vehicles at the Kiss and Go area or at the turning lanes on Battelfield Pkwy. This is a safety concern for all. If you need to assist your child(ren) please park in a parking space and walk your students to the staff member at the median to help them cross to the front of the school.
- Crosswalk locations should be the only areas where people walk across Battlefield Pkwy or to the front of the school sidewalk area.
- DO NOT park in the front handicap parking spaces; there are plenty of other parking spaces to use to park and walk your child(ren) to the front median area where a staff member can assist with safely crossing students.
- DO NOT just let out students of vehicles IN front of the handicap spaces. That area is NOT Kiss and Go Drop off. The Kiss and Go Drop Off is only directly IN front of the school along the sidewalk closest to the school building.
- Only let students out on the passenger side of your vehicles. DO NOT let students out on the driver side. There are many cars coming in and this helps us to keep our students safe at arrival and dismissal.
