MESSAGE FROM THE PRINCIPAL
Each year, the Franklin Education Foundation collects nominations to recognize educators in Franklin Public Schools for the amazing work they do and the impact they have on students and families in our community. Congratulations to Mrs. Mara Magner, Ben Franklin’s winner of the 2023 Excellent Educator Award! Here is Mrs. Magner’s nomination:
“Mrs. Magner is amazing with her students, has a positive, upbeat attitude towards learning, and keeps open communication with the parents. I've had no problem getting in touch with her about anything. She motivates her class to learn and her style has inspired so much growth in my son, as well as all of the kids. She maintains learning while mixing in fun new topics, classroom themes, and related art projects, songs, and other fun elements.”
Last Thursday night, the community recognized Mrs. Magner and the other Franklin Public School award winners at the Milwaukee Milkman Baseball Game. Ben Franklin appreciates Mrs. Magner for all she does for our 4K program and our school community as a whole. You definitely deserve this award!
In addition to Mrs. Magner, the following current Ben Franklin teachers were also nominated for the award:
Mrs. Jennifer Borchers - “She does a great job with the second grade class. Keeps them on track and on pace throughout the school. She handles the energetic second graders well and redirects their energy toward their studies.”
Mrs. Haley Busniewski - “Mrs. B is a really engaged teacher who cares about each of her students. She continually challenges the kids to think on things to help them grow. She is always supportive, thoughtful, and encouraging, especially in her feedback on assignments.”
Mrs. Britni Sorensen - “Britni Sorensen has been instrumental in the success of my child in his last year at the elementary level. Britni took an active role in understanding how my son could learn best. Britni took time out of her personal time to take calls, texts, emails from our family to support the needs of my son.”
Mrs. Deanna Gross - “She is smart, kind, and has tremendous knowledge about so many things. My kid learned so many new things, not just about academics but others as well.”
Mrs. Ruth Kim - “She is kind, compassionate, and innovative. She recognizes her student’s strengths and when they need to be challenged. She meets children where they are in their learning, making sure they receive the guidance they need no matter what level they are at.”
Thank you to those families who nominated our teachers. And thank you to ALL of our wonderful Ben Franklin teachers who work so hard to provide a safe and supportive learning environment for our students.
Mrs. Jewell

UPDATE TO CLASSROOM SNACKS
Please remember to pack daily snacks for your students. Snacks allowed in classrooms must follow the District Wellness Policy, meaning that your student may choose to bring in fruits, vegetables, meats, cheeses, or yogurts unless teacher or nurse discretion warrants further limitations. Specific examples include fresh fruit, applesauce pouches, fruit cups, raisins, carrots, celery, peppers, string cheese, cheese cubes, deli meats, and meat sticks.
New this year: Pretzels, popcorn, and goldfish crackers are also approved snacks. As we have many students with peanut and tree nuts allergies in all buildings, snacks that contain nut products (e.g. peanut butter pretzels) will not be permitted in classrooms. Some safe brands to consider for added snack options include Skinny Pop, Annie's, Snyder's, Smartfood, Pepperidge Farm, and Pretzel Crisps.
