The Good News
February 18 - St. John XXIII Catholic School
Leadership Mesage
Lent lasts for 40 days. Its purpose is to call us back to Christ, bring us closer to our Lord, especially in response to His love for us shown in His suffering, death, and resurrection. The church has given us some traditional practices to help us to do that. They are:
Prayer,
Alms giving,
Use-full service and acts of charity,
Self-sacrifices, and
Educating ourselves by studying the scriptures or other Holy writings.
Lent is a wonderful season during our liturgical year to share the concepts of prayer, fasting and almsgiving with our children. Consider as a family how you might help others in need by giving of your time or resources. Even very young children can understand and will enjoy participating in the process. As parents, carve out time in your day for your own special prayer time.
In other words, we all need to PAUSE for Lent. Check out this blog for ideas how to celebrate Lent with your family: http://www.yourmodernfamily.com/10-lent-ideas/

Enjoy Your Family Day
Simple daily activities such as sharing a meal, a conversation, playing a board game, or reading book can have an enormous impact on the life of a child. Strong and engaged families help build a strong community.
Did you know that if your child isn't talking to you now about their day, they certainly won't start at the age of 12-14. Spend some quality time with your family now to build those important connections that will serve them better as they hit adolescence.
Having a warm, supportive relationships with your children are linked to raising children who have:
- Strong Social Skills
- Better Judgement
- Increased Self-Control
- Improved School Performance
- Better Emotional Regulation
- Resilience
- Self-Confidence
- Decreased Substance Abuse (never too early to prevent this)
