February Conferences

Each year, we have two "official" chances for families to meet with teachers to talk about your student(s). The next dates are February 22 and 23. Please sign up for a conference with each child's teacher by clicking this link.

The link takes you to a Sign-up Genius (same as in the past), but please notice that the first page that opens is Mrs. Henneberry's 5K class. For all other classes, you must scroll across the tabs at the top to find your child's homeroom teacher.

Our goal is to meet with EVERY family. You can help us meet our goal and get valuable information about your child's growth by signing up right away. Thank you!

It's Valentine's Week!

Roses? Conversation hearts? Cards? Something more expensive? Something handmade? People who care about others do something to show it. That is the essence of Valentine's Day and every day. We encourage our students all year long to do things that show they care (I hope you read our Golden Lions that are in the newsletter every week ... that's just a sampling of the ways our students show their care and concern all year at Lakeview).

For Valentine's Day:

• If you send anything, little cards are absolutely enough. It's the thought that counts.

• Keep your baked goods at home and enjoy them. We don't need all kinds of fancy cupcakes in a classroom.

In most cases, teachers will have students exchange items at the very end of the school day just before going home. The sugar and the kids stay apart until the end of the day.

5th Grade Camp Information

Every year, 5th grade students go to camp for 3 days (2 nights). We sent this letter to all 5th grade families in September. This year, camp is on May 3, 4, and 5 at Camp Anokijig in Plymouth, WI. There is a lot of information about camp that we need to communicate to families as we prepare for this great experience. Someone from every 5th grade family should plan to join a virtual information meeting on Monday, February 13 from 5:30-6:15 p.m. using your student's Chromebook. The 5th grade teachers will provide a link to the Google Meet - all you need to do is mark your calendar and listen to the meeting. This link has more info about the virtual camp meeting.

PBIS Update

PBIS stands for "Positive Behavior and Intervention Supports" and it is the research-backed way that Lakeview (and many schools) proactively teach expectations and respond to students. Each month, we provide an update on student behavior at Lakeview.

We continue to give Pride Perks coupons to students, and the current weekly incentives are

• Earning extra recess time

• Getting to be the "Lakeview D.J." and play a song for the entire school

• Winning a McDonald's Happy Meal, delivered to the student at lunch

• Getting the Lakeview Lion to eat at your table during lunch

Our behavior data for January showed that students demonstrated great behavior (as they almost always do). About halfway through the school year,

68.5% of students have never received an incident report

12.5% of students only have 1 incident recorded

10.5% of students have 2-5 incidents

8.5% of students have 6 or more incidents recorded

This means 81% of our students have either never had an incident or only 1 incident after nearly 100 days in school so far. Our students meet our expectations day after day and use the moments that do not meet expectations as learning experiences. We encourage you to use our expectations of Be Safe ~ Be Respectful ~ Be Engaged at home, too!

Be Safe at home could mean "hands to self, play nicely".

Be Respectful at home could mean "use only kind words" and "clean up without being asked".

Be Engaged at home could mean "do your homework" and "be active".

Admiral's Game Field Trip

For those of you who have been at Lakeview for many years, you might remember that Lakeview went to a special Admiral's hockey game for an all-school field trip. We have not gone since pre-Covid, but this year, we are going! All 5K through 5th grade students will go to a daytime Admiral's hockey game on Wednesday, March 1. Permission slips were sent home already - there are two forms to return to school along with the $10 cost. One of the papers (this one) gives information about lunch and chaperones. Please check your student's folder and return these forms and payment as soon as possible.

Smart Smiles

Lakeview will again be participating in the Smart Smiles program, a free dental wellness checkup program. Checkups will be the week of March 20, but families must register in advance. Paper forms were sent home or you can sign up online by clicking this link.

4K Registration for 2023-24 is open

Do you have a student who will be 4 years old on or before September 1, 2024? If so, then register him/her for 4K right now. Families that register now have a better chance of getting one of the all-day 4K spot in South Milwaukee. If you have a relative or neighbor that might have an eligible child, share this information with them.

Click here for information about South Milwaukee's 4K program. Contact the office if you have questions and register now.
