January 2021 Newsletter
Welcome Back
Welcome to a new trimester whether you are on campus or doing classes virtually.
The library is still open for studying and getting books. What many don't know is that most of what we offer is available online even if you are on campus. To learn more about how to access many of our online services, webinars introducing you to the library and the rules for using the library, please take a look through this newsletter.

- Access to research consultations and workshops
The library will continue to serve you virtually as well. To see how to find our ejournals, databases, ebooks and citation management software, look at the Online Library For All section. This information has been included in past newsletters but we offer it again for new students, for those who haven't been through it before and for those who'd like a refresher.
There have been some changes to using Journal Finder via PubMed. All that has changed is the look. It works very similarly to how it did before but you may want to familiarize yourself with the new look with the guides below.
If you'd rather get personal instruction, you may make a one-on-one appointment or attend one of the upcoming virtual workshops. Dates are below in the Library Space and Services section.
It's not all about the virtual library. We have a new archives display honoring the 20th anniversary of the massage therapy program at NWHSU. There is also information about our BIPOC resources to help supplement your knowledge to better treat all populations.

- NWHSU rules on masks and social distancing are in place in the general library area. Masks may be removed only in the study rooms with a closed door. The library classroom is considered part of the main library area.
- In the main library area, one person is allowed per table (approximately 25 people)

Study Rooms
We know that having everyone at home means finding a quiet place to study can be complicated. If you need some solitude, the library study rooms are available to you.
- Study rooms are 1 person per room in most rooms. Rooms 8 and 9 allow for two people per room. Signs indicate the max. number of people per room.
- Study room signup will take place through SignUp Genius. Links to signups will be posted weekly on the main library page.
- Available reservation blocks will be four hours long except for a two hour block on Friday afternoons.
- Study rooms are considered open (or first come, first served) after 6 p.m. on M-Th.
- Masks may be removed in the study rooms if the doors are closed but they need to be put back on when entering the general library area.
- Study rooms will be sanitized every four hours after opening (specific times will vary depending on the day.) If you need them sanitized earlier, please inquire at the front desk.
Checking Out Materials
You can finally access reserve books and anatomical models again. And we will continue curbside pickup for our general collection if requested.
- Reserve items, including textbooks and anatomical models, can be checked out for two hours.
- Reserve items can't be safely sanitized without damaging the materials so please use caution (and hand sanitizer) when using them.
- General collection items can be checked out of the library. If you prefer not coming into the library, you can email library@nwhealth.edu for curbside pickup. (Not available for reserve).
- When returned, general collection items are quarantined for a few days before they can be checked out again.
- Since we're starting circulating materials again, we would appreciate (but not require) the return of library materials.
Writing Lab and Research Consultations
Do you have questions about how to use the library, find articles or properly cite articles? Do you have a paper you'd like us to look over? We're here to help you out. The consultations will still be through TEAMS, phone, email or almost any other avenue that you propose.
You probably know that you can get this help during the day. What you might not know is that you can actually ask for "off hour" appointments. Kids go to bed at 9 p.m. and that's when you have quiet time? Feel free to ask for a late night appointment. There are no guarantees but you might be surprised when a librarian will make herself available.
Writing lab appointments are also mostly done virtually. Send us your paper, information about your assignment and what you'd like us to look at. We'll give feedback on at least some of your paper through notes on your paper or in an email. We will also happily set up phone consultations to answer your questions if either you or the person looking over your paper think it'd be helpful.
To make an appointment, email library@nwhealth.edu.

Congratulations to the Massage Therapy program on its 20th anniversary! The School of Massage Therapy was founded in September 2000 under the leadership of then-university president Dr. John Allenburg and the guidance of a group of local massage therapists.
In 2005, the School’s certificate program was the first in the state to receive accreditation by the Commission on Massage Therapy Accreditation. The School became the Massage Therapy Program within the newly created College of Health & Wellness in 2015.
Here’s to the program’s next 20 years of helping clients feel better and advancing the practice of therapeutic massage!

Resources on BIPOC health care
As the United States grapples with questions about how social systems can be more equitable, there has been an increased awareness on the inequities in health care outcomes related to race, gender, sexual identity and class. As discussions are being held on a broader level, you may want to learn more about what you can do as an individual.
The library has educational resources available to help you become more aware and tools to make you a better health care practitioner.

How to Use the Library From Off Campus
This section will offer tutorials on how to access library resources from off campus. The PDF document below is the most comprehensive guide.
There will also be short videos of how to do some of these steps. If you'd like to see anything "in action" please contact the library.
How do I use Ejournal Finder/Login From Off Campus?
How Do I Find Full Text Using PubMed?
How Do I Access Full Text via Google Scholar?
How do I Add Citations to Mendeley?

Textbook Ebooks
Find it in our catalog!
Barring technical difficulties, it is available for students in our catalog. To access it, go to the main library page and search for the title in our catalog (i.e. use the search for books feature instead of searching for journals bar).
Then look for the copy that says "Online Access." Click on the the online access link. To log in from off campus, type in your full email address (including the nwhealth.edu) and enter the password you use for email/computers.
For the record, with Nutritional Medicine, only two people can access it at a time so if you aren't allowed access, try during an "off" time (i.e. between classes as other members of your cohort might also choose the time to access the book.)
Library Support For Faculty
Naturally, faculty and staff have access to the library resources above..
We are also a resource for your questions about linking to library resources, emergency open access resources and online teaching books and resources.
If you'd like to link to subscription library resources, please use this guide below.
