National Digital Learning Day- Friday 3/13/15

Mark your calendars for the annual National Digital Learning Day. While participating in this day is optional, it is a wonderful day to showcase how you and your students are taking lessons above the "bar", the SAMR bar that is ! We would like to hear what you have planned as we will update our WWEF board and Jessica Wakefield on our students' participation. Keep us posted by adding to our Google Doc here-

Here is a link to an article that discusses the value in participating -

Kahoot - A Gem from Tech Tuesday

We learned how to use this great interactive game at our Tech Tuesday workshop. You can use your three devices and have students play in teams as a way to check for understanding. Begin by watching the You Tube below and ask Shaylene if you need any help. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zugjSWIxVZA

SBAC Training: March 18th Grades 3-5

The SBAC test training will be help on Wednesday, March 18th in the computer lab for grades 3-5. Please use your black lines with your students to help familiarize your students with the format. Perhaps use an item a day...

SBAC Usernames and Password-

Please be on the lookout for an email from caaspp@ets.org. You will be issued an username and a temporary password, and will be asked to create a new password. Please have them keep this password in a safe place as you will need it for testing. They must login and establish their new password within 30 days of receiving the email.

Westwood Postal Service to Begin Soon

The Westwood Postal Service is set to begin, the program which allows Westwood students (and staff) to "mail" letters to friends in all classrooms.

The first step is to have each classroom identified by a town-like name, such as Shucago or Clarksville. You and/or your students may decide on your town name. The list of town names will be given to each class, and a copy will be posted at the "post office" in the library. Classes will also get an example of a properly addressed envelope. If you choose not to use envelopes, please have your students fold, tape and address the blank side of their writing paper. (Illegible mail will be returned to sender.)

Please email your town name to Brian K. by Friday, March 6.

Email Brian with any questions. Thank you.

More Tech Funding On the Horizon- Input Needed!

Our Foundation continues to support our initiative to implement devices in learning centers in each classroom and has voted to support another round of device purchases. Before we place the order, we really want your input. Please complete the survey no later than this upcoming Thursday 3/12/15 so we can use your feedback towards purchasing and planning. https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/QDJPNC9

MATH RESOURCES: Using I Can Statements

This video shows how to use "I Can" statements in math lessons, make explicit connections to previous learning and clarify vocabulary. It also reviews a formative assessment cycle of clarify, elicit, interpret and act on to move instruction forward. We hope you find it applicable to the great work you are doing in your classrooms.
