Sacred Heart Weekly Update

September 7, 2020

We are looking forward to our first day of school

The staff and I are ready to greet your child tomorrow morning. We can't wait to start the 2020-2021 school year.

Don't forget:

A filled water bottle.

Face mask (you might want to pack an extra one in case your child needs a new one during the day).

Jacket--students will be spending time outside, so pack a jacket.

Lunch--if you did not order a hot lunch, please pack a cold lunch.

Packing cold lunches

Please make sure your child can open EVERYTHING that you pack in the cold lunch. Don't forget to pack silverware and a napkin.

We want to eliminate staff from touching your child's lunch items. We will open milk for the younger students.

AM DROP OFF------REVISED. PLEASE READ.

****Drop off between 7:15-7:40 a.m.

****All K-8 students must wait by the vehicle to have their temperature taken. When you pull up to the assigned location (see below), parents will pull up by the staff member. Students will get out of car for a quick temperature check. We ask that parents wait until this procedure is done.

Door 8 West Broadway (behind the school)

This door is for PreK children and K-8 students with last name beginning with A-G.

Note: PreK families must walk their child to the entry way to sign in your preschooler.

THIS CHANGED!!! WE WILL MAKE ONE LINE ON 41ST AND HUBBARD AVE. ( IN FRONT OF SCHOOL) TO ELIMINATE CARS FROM PULLING OUT IN TRAFFIC AND TO HELP KEEP THE LINE MOVING. This line is for student last names beginning with H-Z.

Please start the line by the corner of 41st and Hubbard. We are asking the first 6-8 cars in line have their child(ren) waiting outside the car, ready for temperature check. You will see 3 staff outside monitoring AM drop off. Please do not pull around stopped cars.

All Students will enter Door 5.

*****Please be patient at morning drop-off and it will be slower the first week of school until we establish a routine. This procedure is new for everyone and we will make adjustments as needed. Safety is first!

PM CAR PICK UP BEGINS AT 2:05 PM

Each family is assigned a car number for PM pick up. This number is NOT needed for AM drop off. This number may be found in your Back to School packet. Make sure it is visible from your windshield.

· Each family will receive two car numbers that are the same, in case you have two different people picking up your child(ren). If you need another number, please let us know.

· Cars will form a line along Hubbard Ave. at approximately 1:50 pm. Please do not block any school entrances or driveways. Be courteous and patient during pick-up.

· Staff will announce car numbers to the school office in car line order. Teachers will dismiss students once the family car number is called. Students will exit door 5 and keep social distancing on the sidewalk.

If your child carpools with another family, your child will need to know that family's car number.

· Safety patrols will be present to make sure students travel safely to the car. All parents/guardians, will stay in their vehicle, unless you must secure a child in a car seat.

· Parents of students in K-8, will not be allowed to pick up students between 1:30-2:10 pm. All K-8 car pick-up will be in the front of school. If you have a preschooler, then siblings will go to the PreK classroom at 2:05 pm so the family can leave together.

· Pre-K pick-up will take place at Door 8. Teachers will wait with the PreK children/siblings in the vestibule for pick-up. One family at a time will come inside the entry way to sign their child(ren) out for the day. PreK Parents will keep social distancing outside and wear a mask.

IMPORTANT-----Please help advocate for transportation services for our students at Sacred Heart Catholic School

We finally heard from Robbinsdale School District regarding transportation. When Robbinsdale Schools are in the distance learning mode, Sacred Heart Catholic School will NOT have bussing from the district. Parents will have to provide transportation.

The Minnesota Catholic Conference is helping our Catholic schools advocate for transportation. MN law requires school districts to work with non-public schools to provide transportation for non-public school students. The MN Legislature appropriated funding to school districts for this purpose. MDE encourages non-public schools and local school districts to work together to allow non-public schools to hire a bus company for service and the school district will be reimbursed by the state.

How can you help? Click on this link and send an email to Gov. Walz, legislators, and Minnesota's Education Commissioner. Help us advocate for our students!

Band and Orchestra 2020-2021

YES, band and orchestra will take place at Sacred Heart this year! In consultation with the Sacred Heart administration, Totino-Grace Fine Arts Academy and guidelines by the MN Department of Health, we WILL BE offering band and orchestra this year: grades 4 - 8 for band and grades 3 - 8 for orchestra. Physical distancing will be practiced in lessons and group meetings, masks worn to and from lessons and rehearsals and during lessons and rehearsals for string and percussion players / when not playing for woodwind and brass players, as well as instrument specific accommodations for the safety of the students and staff (bell covers, flute shields, individual music and books, etc). The staff has also been working hard over the summer to plan for the best way to quickly and effectively transition to a from the possibility of distance learning, so instruction will continue without pause.

Returning students: simply click HERE to register for the program and you will be set for the year!

NEW students: Click HERE to find out more information about instrument selection and sizing, instrument demos, and if needed, how to rent an instrument. This site will also be the place to register for the program.

If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to contact Tim Hoffman, TG Fine Arts Academy Coordinator. Thank you and we look forward to another great year for the band and orchestra programs at Sacred Heart School!
