Salt is essential to life; it heals, preserves, and adds flavor. I'll share my experiences not only as a principal but my other favorite title, Dad.
Parking Lot Concerns
As you may know, our parking lot is a bit undesirable at the end of the day. Our once lush green grass has now resembles a Faster Horses Music Festival parking area, complete with mud from winter's thaw.
To help, we are adding two new parking areas.
Area one will be near the small lot closest to the playground. We are going to level the ground with machinery and bring in some additional crushed gravel to assist with parking.
The second area is in the fire lane near the front of the school, where you'll be able to park on the left side of the fire lane, which will still allow emergency vehicles to flow through in case of an emergency.
To help preserve the other areas of the school, we will block these areas off. There will be no parking in the areas indicated on the map.
Thank you for your patience and flexibility in advance as we all make adjustments to keep Spencer beautiful.

PTO BOARD NOMINATIONS: Interested in serving on the PTO Board next year? Please let us know! If you have interest in serving in any position, contact me at hietikko.j@gmail.com. Nominations will remain open through April 8th and voting will take place at the April 12 PTO Meeting.
ART NIGHT: Our April Family Night is an Arts and Crafts night on April 11th, 6-8pm in the gym. We will have six different arts and crafts stations for the kids, as well as a cute photo booth. This is a new event this year, so come try it out! We will need volunteers at each station, and a few for set up and clean up. Please check out the signup genius here to help!
AUCTION/CARNIVAL: The 33rd Annual Auction and Carnival is May 7th from 4-7pm. This event is our main fundraiser for the year and we need TONS of help! Check out the Auction/Carnival signup genius here for a volunteer slot. This is the perfect opportunity for older siblings to help out! Have kids who need Community Service hours? Sign them up!
We are still looking for game sponsors and/or donations! If you or your company are interested in helping with one of these items, please see the attached letters. As a PTO, we reach out to hundreds of local businesses for sponsorships and donations. However, individual families may make donations as well. Ideas of some items we would love to receive are:
- Tickets to sporting events (are you a season pass holder, but cannot make a particular game? We'd be glad to take those extra tickets off your hands!)
- Tickets to shows (concerts, plays, etc)
- Do you own an AirBnB or VRBO property that you would be willing to donate a weekend stay at?
- Baskets of anything you think others would love
- Handmade items
This year, we are highlighting all our sponsors and donors on our website. Please take a look here to see who has made a contribution to date! We will attempt to keep this up to date as items come in.
One of the highlights of the silent auction are the classroom projects. Each year, we ask volunteers to plan a project to create with their child's class. Each project will involve all the children within a classroom in some way. We are still looking for a few class project leaders! Please see the sign up here! We ask that you coordinate with your child's teacher on ideas, then run it past Amber Blum akblum@hotmail.com prior to starting to prevent having many of the same type of project. All projects are due May 1st.

Note From the Counselor
Counselor Corner!
Here we are in March, ready for some sunshine and warmer weather! This month, we will be visiting classrooms for some Read Alouds and social-emotional stories for Reading Month. We are doing our best to meet the needs of students and classrooms by providing additional support with student groups and individual concerns. During this time of the year, needs are high and many students are requiring additional connections. Our goal for this month is to more directly meet the needs of our students during this stretch of the year when we all need a little more TLC.
Lets Connect: If you are noticing some behaviors that are interfering with your child’s success in the classroom, please feel free to complete my parent referral form and we can work together to determine if supports are needed here at school.
More Resources: We also have our BAS Elementary Counseling website for ideas and resources to be used at home!
