PRINCIPAL'S MESSAGE
Thank you for emailing words of appreciation to our teachers, for donating food or money toward the appreciation breakfast and luncheon and for the many ways that you support education throughout the year! Our faculty and staff enjoyed the gratitude. Thank you to Mrs. DiLeo and Mrs. Boland, IHS PTSA Officers, who organized, planned and served our faculty and staff. We truly appreciate the time that you devote to IHS and to showing appreciation for our faculty and staff.
SAFE DRIVING EXPO
On May 15th and 16th, during Physical Education Classes, students will learn about safe driving, sponsored by STOP DWI Monroe County.
Our goals are:
- To increase student and family awareness of the prevalence of self reported student experience related to impaired driving.
- To increase student and family awareness of the risks associated with impaired driving
- To share resources on safe driving to students and families
- To engage students, school and the community in a partnership of prevention of impaired driving.
During class, students will learn about the impacts of impaired and drunk driving, read testimonies and personal accounts and engage with simulators. If you have any questions, please contact Ms. Snyder, our Prevention Counselor.

UNITED STATES REGENTS~ JUNE 1ST
Students taking a US History class or AP United States History class will take the NYS Regents exam on June 1st, 2023. This exam begins at 8AM; students will be excused from their classes during the testing time.
- Most students will take their Regents exam at the Field House.
- Students with accommodations will hear from their case manager and you will receive an email with their room location.
- Students should bring multiple pens with them
- Students will have to leave their backpacks, cell phone and other electronic devices in a designated secure location as NYS does not permit devices during the exam.
JUNE REGENTS
All other NYS Regents exams will take place between June 14th and June 23th; there are no exams on June 19th in observance of Juneteenth.
During these days, high school students only report to the high school if they are scheduled for a Regents exam. The last day of regularly scheduled classes for students in grade 9-12 is June 13th.
Classroom Teachers will begin sharing details with students regarding their testing location, time and materials needed. We will share additional information in our June newsletter but have attached the schedule below for planning.
We continue to plan final exams for courses that do not end in a Regents and will send updates soon!
COUNSELOR UPDATES
- Counselors will be working with all seniors during an English class to complete a senior survey. This will include updating all information in Naviance related to final decisions regarding post high school plans. Final high school transcripts are generated and sent to the school of choice through this information gathered from the survey. Students requiring final transcripts sent to NCAA Eligibility Center is also included in this process. If anything changes with your plans after completing the survey, you will need to reach out to the Counseling Center which is staffed throughout the summer to update where final transcripts should be sent. Transcripts are finalized with senior year grades by early July.
For students who earned dual enrollment credit through MCC or RIT during high school, you will need to request an official transcript directly from that college for your credits to transfer to the school of your choice. Visit those college websites or contact their Registrar’s Office for more information on how to request a transcript. To send AP scores, you need to log into your College Board account, and there is an option to send your scores to the college of your choice.
NEW ELECTIVE~ ART of TEACHING I
Art of Teaching 1: This course will be open to 9th and 10th grade students who want to learn more about the teaching field. Curious about the education field? Wondering if education is the field for you? This is a yearlong, pre-collegiate course for high school students, grades 9-11. This dual-credit course explores the basic principles of education, including classroom management, pedagogies of teaching, social-emotional learning, culturally responsive and sustaining education, and more! Throughout the class, students will engage in dialogue, practice creating lessons, consider various issues in education, and learn from experts in the field.
Students would then progress to Art of Teaching II to deepen their understanding of the teaching field and begin building their instructional skills.
If your student is interested, please ask them to email their school counselor.
MENTAL HEALTH AWARENESS MONTH
May is Mental Health Awareness Month and is the ideal time to open up the conversation, reach out, and spread awareness about the significance of the problem and what we can do about it. Mental health issues affect us all. Let's take advantage of Mental Health Month to commit to learning more about how to spot warning signs, support and intervene on students at risk, and create sound mental health policies that create improved learning and healthier school communities.
