For the safety and wellness of all!
Accidents happen! Please send in an extra set of pants and underpants for your student’s backpack, especially for students in the lower grades. While we do have a limited supply of extra clothing, we may not be able to provide all sizes to all students.
We have been spoiled with an unusually warm fall but cold weather is on the horizon! Please make sure your student is dressed appropriately for the weather condition. Students go outside whenever possible for recess.
We have had an increase of students being sent home (or calling in) with fevers and vomiting. Please review the Monomoy Regional School District Attendance Guidelines:
Attendance Guidelines
Please notify the school's main office if your student is going to be absent.
The following guidelines are recommended for determining whether or not to keep a child at home:
A child who has been vomiting or has had diarrhea should be kept at home for at least 24 hours after symptoms have ceased. If your child has consistent pain, fever, and poor oral intake, they should be seen by your physician.
Any child with a fever of 100.0 or above should remain at home until 24 hours after the fever has ended and the child's temperature has returned to normal.
If cold and cough symptoms are persistent and associated with a fever, a physician should see the child.
If the white part of your child's eye is red and the eye has a yellow or green discharge, your child may have conjunctivitis, and your physician should be contacted. The child may return to school after 24 hours of treatment.
If your child has either strep throat or impetigo, he/she must have received 24 hours of medication before returning to school.
Head lice requires treatment for live lice.
Children who have chickenpox must stay home until all lesions are scabbed over, which takes approximately 5-7 days. The school nurse MUST be notified of all chickenpox cases.
All diagnosed cases of Fifths' Disease should be referred to the nurse.
Morning Music Selection of the Week at HES!
Our music this week takes us to Mexico. Aaron Copland traveled a lot during his life and collected many musical ideas and tunes that he heard on his visits. These became the basis for much of his music
His first trip to Mexico was in 1932, at the invitation of his friend Carlos Chávez, the most important composer and conductor in Mexican art music, and national Director of Fine Arts. Copland was very impressed with the people and the music of Mexico, and he returned several times on extended working vacations.
El Salón México was inspired by that first trip, and is an important work in Copland's use of folk and popular music. The work is about Copland's experiences in a popular dance hall of the same name, with bits of authentic Mexican songs that Copland found in books and mixed into his music.
Copland completed the music in 1936, and Chávez conducted the premiere or first performance in Mexico City in 1937. El Salón México was first heard in the United States in a radio broadcast in 1938.
