STEM Fun at Pinello Elementary
Fifth grade STEM students at Pinello Elementary had fun with fluid dynamics this week.
The students used Bernoulli's principle to inflate air tubes and build structures using group collaboration. What's Bernoulli's principle you ask? It states that an increase in the speed of a fluid occurs simultaneously with a decrease in pressure or a decrease in the fluid's potential energy. #TheMoreYouKnow

Grandfriends Tour at the MiLL
Superintendent Scott Campbell gave our lovely group of Grandfriends a tour of the MiLL last week. For those new to the district, Grandfriends is a group of volunteers who help out in our schools, library, and at parks and recreation. The group was very impressed with what students are learning at the MiLL and excited to see skilled trades being taught in districts again.

WHS Teacher Helps Produce Mental Health Film
Shout out to Morgan Melton, teacher at Widefield High School, for her role in the film Holden On. Morgan helped with grant writing and fundraising before filming, and once that started she worked onset throughout the filming process and ended up with a Production Assistant credit. Yes, she has her own IMDb page! Morgan is now the Vice Chair for the non-profit IAMHOLDENON as well as the teacher liaison. She is currently working to build a curriculum geared for middle and high school grades that centers around the film and will focus on teaching students about the person behind mental illness with the goal of helping to end the stigma. WHS teacher Ariel Collins has also used the art movement associated with the film in her health classes. Students have come up with some incredible artwork to spotlight mental illness (See photos below). Some of the students' artwork is on the IAMHOLDENON website. There is a free screening of the film on May 21, 2018 at 7 p.m. at Ivywild Gymnasium.
