Classroom Focus
During February I worked with all students on how to use the Calm My Body Boxes and fidgets that each classroom was getting. I am excited to be able to offer each classroom in our building this support so students who experience stress, frustration , anger etc. can practice coping strategies. My goal is to teach students how to self regulate when things don't go the way they expect. Our emotions are a part of us and we need to learn how to control them.
Students also learned how to use the fidget tools when they need extra help focusing.
Lunch Bunch Time
During January and February I have taken classes during their lunch time to our empty classroom for a lunch break. I have eaten with all students in grades 1-5. We have used this informal time to talk about what is working in their classroom and what they need help with.
I also did a mini lesson on respecting differences in grades 2-5. Our first graders got a lesson on tattling. I think the students enjoyed eating somewhere besides the cafeteria.
Counseling Program at Glenwood
I work with ALL students. As a school counselor, my number one job is to provide prevention services so our kids learn to make good choices. This is why your children know who I am. I am very involved in school wide programs, and classroom lessons. I truly believe the saying an ounce of prevention is worth more than a pound of cure.
I do provide additional services for children who need more help with being successful in school. Some students are put in small groups or meet individually to come up with a plan to help them be successful.
Please understand that I am not a therapist. If you want your child to see someone daily or weekly, I will be glad to help you find a therapist.
Seeing the counselor
Your kids are very important to me. i want to offer you support but please understand if you just drop by I may not be available to see you. My days are busy with classes, small groups, individuals and meetings. Please call me to schedule a time that is convenient to both of us.
Thank you,
