Greetings CALA Parents & Families!
This begins our 8th week of the 9 week period. Everyone should have engaged in their fall parent conference by the week of 11/19/21. Every student who has a completed, documented parent conference will receive a special treat prior to the winter break.
This week we spent time recognizing 1st through 4th grade students who earned approaches, meets, and masters on their first district assessment. We also celebrated 2 great leaders in each PK-4 class with Habit 2 recognition. Our 4th grade students participated in the spelling bee and cheered their classmates on as they competed this past Friday. We are very proud of all of the participants, especially our first place winner, our runner-up, and sponsor, Ms. Bables. Special thanks to our judges and verifiers Ms. Silva, Ms. Martin, Ms. Nembhard, and Ms. Ford.
As we enter December, students in 1st through 4th grade will complete their second district assessments in math, reading, science, and social studies. PK-K will complete their middle of the year progress indicator assessments in math and reading.
Please remind your child to focus and do their best on each assessment.
Please arrive on time each day for the start of school so your child can take full advantage of all the learning available each week.
Thank you in advance for your commitment and partnership in educating your child.
Sincerely,
Jessica Linwood

Attendance Matters
We are following a temporary mask mandate. Therefore, each child needs their own mask every day. Thank you very much for ensuring your child has their own mask each day!
If you want to help us in spreading holiday cheer, dress according to the lists below :-)
Thank you to the families who joined us Friday night for an overview of the 7 Habits! Students who were represented by their parents will receive a treat prior to the December break.
Habit 2 - Begin with the End in Mind - at home
- Have a family discussion about goals and what each child wants to be when they grow up. Discuss things you could do right now to be working toward those goals.
- Make an action plan and get started!
- Create a family budget. Have kids determine how to spend and save their allowance.

Attendance Focus
As we enter the holiday break, there will be many activities taking place. It is extremely important that students are in attendance on time, every day, and remain in school the entire day. We will have some fun activities, but we are still providing instruction and all students need to be present and engaged.
If you are planning to pick up your child early on any day, please remember that we do not release any students early between 2:45pm - 3:30pm. This helps us all prepare to safely and orderly end the school day and prepare for dismissal.
ALL CLASSES are working toward an attendance incentive when every student in the class is present for a set number of consecutive days. Help your child's class win by bringing them every, single day!
Thank you in advance for your cooperation with this.

Applications for school lunch are still being accepted. Please click the Schoolcafe link below to complete the school lunch application if you have not done so.
Are you reading every night? Check out reasons why you should start right away.
You and each of your children should read or be read to each night. If reading is a struggle, begin in books with basic vocabulary or listen to books online-but make sure the reader shows the words to the book so you can see, hear, and pick up on the words. Read lyrics to songs, nutrition labels, recipes, etc.
Research shows that regular reading:
- improves brain connectivity.
- increases your vocabulary and comprehension.
- empowers you to empathize with other people.
- aids in sleep readiness.
- reduces stress.
- lowers blood pressure and heart rate.
- fights depression symptoms.
- prevents cognitive decline as you age.
