Red Ribbon Week
It's purpose is to share positive messages about staying drug free. SADD chapter will be challenging all students, faculty, and staff to join together as we explore this year’s theme “Be Kind To Your Mind, Live Drug Free”.
Each day we will have a way to show our commitment to living a drug free, healthy life.
Monday: “Listen Up” All students will receive a free set of earbuds with carrying pouch.
Tuesday: “Rest Your Mind” Pajama pants day.
Wednesday: “Take the Pledge” SADD will distribute drug free pledges during lunches. Students who return the pledge signed by Friday will receive free admission to the fall dance.
Thursday: “Band Together Against Drugs" All students will be given a drug & bully free wristband to proudly wear.
Friday: “Show Your Good ‘character’ Vape Free" Dress as your favorite character (book, movie, superhero, etc).
6th Grade Author Visit
On Friday, October 13th, they enjoyed a virtual visit with the book's author, Tom Rogers. Prior to the visit, students had the opportunity to write a question to ask the author.

Student Council Spirit Week Fun

Science Olympiad Meeting
Do you like to build things or do science labs?
Come see what Science Olympiad is all about.
We are having an informational meeting on Thursday, October 26, from 3:15 - 4:15 p.m.
We will go over the practice schedule, tournament date, and list of events at that time.

8th Grade Vision Screenings
We appreciate our partnership with the Kiwanis Club that allows us to offer this service to our students.
Fall Dance
In order to be eligible to attend the dance, students must be present at school the entire day, cannot earn any discipline on the day of the dance, and cannot have accumulated two or more demerits for aggressive or illegal behavior from August 9th through November 17th.
More details, including cost and theme, will be shared in the coming weeks.
Technology Reminder
As a reminder, students should only use their school-issued iPad and all of their school accounts for tasks that their teachers assign.
Students should not use their iPad or accounts for chatting via Google docs, searching non-education related terms/phrases, or any other activity that isn't directly related to something that a teacher assigned.
Morning Drop Off
Our morning supervision person arrives at that time.
Reminders for Walkers
Please be careful when crossing the streets, utilize sidewalks and crosswalks when available, and follow the street crossing signs.
Officer Nicholson has met with all students regarding safety at school and throughout the community.
Winter Sports Season
Basketball, cheer, swimming, and wrestling are the SMS winter sports. (Swimming and wrestling will not begin until later.)
Students should listen to the afternoon announcements for more information about tryouts, practices, and events.
Eventlink will still be the platform that we use to communicate with parents/family members regarding practices and events.

Like many schools, we occasionally experience some supply/distribution delays. We will follow the posted menus when possible, but will have to make adjustments at times.
Student Handbook Update
The Scottsburg MS student handbook contains some updates for the 2023-2024 school year. The most significant changes took place in the attendance section.
