Guidance Office News & Events for Pius X Juniors!
Dear Parents and Students,
Note: Registration material are due in the front office! Please find additional information below that will be helpful to your family as you plan and prepare for both summer and senior year. College bound juniors should consider taking the ACT and/or SAT (college entrance exams) at least once in their junior year. Students usually do better on the ACT and most do not need to take the SAT, though both are accepted at all colleges.
Cost: $39.50 (test) or $56.50 (test w/writing)

Lincoln Police Department Job Shadow Day is March 31st from 12:00pm-3:00pm! Please stop in the Guidance Office for details on how to register! Students will spend time behind the badge learning about CSI, K-9 units, SWAT, and the hiring process for working for LPD!
Southeast Community College Discovery Days
SCC Discovery Days will give students the opportunity to experience SCC first-hand. Discovery Days will create an opportunity to ask questions about a variety of topics from Programs of Study to how to pay for college and use support services. Campus tours are also available. There is no cost to attend and lunch is provided. Click here for more information!
University of Nebraska STEM internship
The Nebraska Center for Materials and Nonscience (NCMN) at the University of Nebraska is offering a summer high school STEM internship program! Lincoln area high school students ages 16 or older are eligible and will receive guidance and training in STEM labs. This is a paid internship of 20 hours per week M-F! Bryan College of Health Sciences Discovery Day
Discovery day will take place on March 22 from 8:00-12:30 PM. The experience allows students an opportunity to interacting with healthcare professionals and actual equipment used in various health fields. Breakout sessions will also teach about job requirements and opportunities as well as salaries and education. Paperwork will be available for registration in the Guidance Office beginning February 22nd!
Senior Service Hours
Note: All seniors are required to complete 36 hours of service during their senior year. Current juniors can begin earning their hours on May 21st. The Guidance Office recommends earning these hours beginning in the summer.
Over 200 assistants are needed to work with Bright Lights teachers in hands-on classrooms. No prior Bright Lights or teaching experience is necessary. Assistants are trained during a 90 minute session in May. Summer is a great time to earn 20 volunteer service hours. Anyone interested in an international experience will enjoy assisting with visiting students from Japan at Lux Middle School the week of June 20-24. Oxbow Animal Health Vet Camp
Oxbow Animal Health produces foods and supplements for small animals. Individuals are invited to apply to serve as volunteer camp assistants for this summer's youth veterinary camps. Camps consist of four day camps for children ages 8-14 and camps run almost every week from June to August in both Omaha and Lincoln areas.
