And So The Adventure Begins...
Parents it has been another great week at Burchett! This upcoming week includes various changes that I want you to be aware of:
1. Our Empowered Learning At Home is ready to transition into our Project Based Learning (PBL) Units. These are Interdisciplinary Units that will empower our students and parents to explore various topics through flexible learning. The first unit will be a Humanities Based Unit. Don't forget to visit https://www.springisd.org/athome starting on Monday and familiarize yourself with the units. Your child's teacher will be reaching out to you on Monday or Tuesday to ensure that you can access and understand the layout of the unit.
2. We are excited to offer instructional support sessions via Zoom for our students. Each grade level will have an hour AM session as well as a PM session to offer students and parents opportunities to ask any questions they may have about the activities. These sessions will begin on Wednesday, April 15th.
3. With the launch of the PBL units, students will soon begin to submit assignments via SCHOOLOGY. This hub is located in the MySpringISD portal. Below is a folder of "How To" Videos to get better acquainted with this system, but please know that our teachers will be reaching out to support you.
4. Meal and Packet Distribution days have changed. Meals and Packets will only be distributed on Mondays and Wednesdays from 10-12.

District News
Spring ISD to Offer Multiple Free Meal Distribution on Mondays and Wednesdays
Starting Monday, April 13, Spring ISD will implement changes to its free meal distribution program to better serve families and staff during the extended COVID-19 closure.
The district will now be handing out packets of multiple-day meals on Mondays and Wednesdays only. On Monday, families will pick up meals for Monday and Tuesday, and on Wednesdays, they will receive meals for Wednesday, Thursday and Friday.
“We’re making this change to minimize the number of family trips to schools and ensure we do our part to “Stay Home, Stay Safe” as ordered by state and local officials,” said Chief Operations Officer, Mark Miranda. “Fewer trips will be more convenient for our families.”
Because larger kitchens and food storage are needed to accommodate this change, the following sites will be offering meal pick-up:
- Bailey
- Booker
- Clark Primary
- Claughton
- McNabb
- Reynolds
- Westfield
Parents will be able to pick up on Mondays and Wednesday from 10 a.m. to noon at all sites. Evening pick up will be available at Bailey, Claughton and Westfield from 4 to 6 p.m.
In another change, families will have the option of just popping their trunks so the meals can be placed inside. District officials remind families that meals are available to all children 18 years and younger but they must be present in the vehicle to receive them.

Social Distancing Should Not Mean Social Isolation
Young children need to have quality time with their caregivers and other important people in their lives. Social connectedness improves children’s chances of showing the ability to cope with difficulties and overcome obstacles regardless of the situation.
Here are some creative approaches to staying connected during this time of self-distancing:
● Using online video chats with friends, and family members outside the immediate home
● Writing letters to friends and family members
● Playing online video games with friends
● Playing board/ and card games
● Cooking and baking together
● Write a thank you letter to your postman and leave in your mailbox for them
