Fantastic First Grade
Mrs. Furtado's Class
Welcome to Mrs. Furtado's First Grade Page
Run...run...as fast as you can...The Gingerbread Man is at it again! To kick off our PBL unit in Geography last week, the Gingerbread Man paid us a surprise visit and has been sending us a letter and an item from a different continent and country around the world. The students then research and write about that country, as we track him on the world map. But there's another part to it...in our learning about other countries around the world, our goal is to help the Gingerbread Man find a permanent place to live! We have learned a great deal so far, and are going to be teaching our classmates and other students what we've learned! Stay tuned!
The Gingerbread Man left us a super sweet surprise for keeping our stamina going in the "tough research lingo" in our readings of other countries! We THOUGHT it was the Gingerbread Man who left these, anyway...until Mrs. Howell stuck her head in our door and told us who REALLY made them! Thanks, Mrs. Howell!
This is collaboration at work! The students are more than halfway through the art portion of their PBL. They have rolled, covered, and paper mached one of three 3-D landforms: Mt. Pinatubo (Philippines), The Yucatan Peninsula (Mexico), and Mt. Everest (India). Back in class, we are drawing maps, researching and highlighting important information we will be teaching other students.
