- Wear panther clothing on Wednesday, September 25th.
Guided Reading/Daily 5
Monday we will begin guided reading. Books will be sent home once they are finished at school for a reread. Listen to your child reread the book, sign the slip, and send it back to school by the date indicated. I usually give two nights to reread a guided reading book. Remember to mark it down on the READ calendar too. I have introduced all of the Daily 5 choices that the students will be able to do during guided reading: read to self, work on writing, listen to reading, word work, and partner reading.
Writing
We have been sharing our misadventures together, looking at sample personal narratives and brainstorming ideas for their misadventures to write about.
Spelling
We began our spelling words this week. Every Monday the students will be doing a preview on the words we will work on. It will be sent home so you can practice the words with your child. In class, the students will use the missed words during word work time in the morning. There will not be a Friday test, but I will assess their spelling inside their writing.
Science/Social Studies
In science the students are working on a life cycle poster with a partner. Each group will research a life cycle of an insect online and then compare and contrast it to a butterfly's life cycle. We received painted lady caterpillars on Wednesday and will observe them change into butterflies.
Math
During math we are continuing to practice different addition and subtraction strategies. We will be applying these to story problems next week. Remember to practice addition and subtraction facts through 18 at home nightly through flashcards or Xtramath.org.
