LASE Update 12/7/15

HAVE A VERY MERRY CHRISTMAS!

DECEMBER LASE MEETING MINUTES

We had a great December LASE meeting with some fun group learning activities. Remember you can access meeting agendas, minutes, and any handouts at our website: Springfield Area LASE

Our next meeting is January 8th and we are looking for ideas for our next book study selection. If you have any suggestions please share them with me via email esmith@wolves.k12.mo.us

MO-CASE WINTER INSTITUTE

There is still time to register for the MO-CASE Winter Institute and Law Seminar. The conference will be held on January 14-15 @ Stoney Creek Inn, Columbia.

The Law Seminar that has traditionally been held in the spring before the MO CEC conference is now scheduled for the first day of the MO-CASE Winter Institute from 9:00-12:00.

Keynote speakers are Dr. Matt Burns, Beth Wood, and Kaye Otten!

Every Child Achieves Act of 2015

Diane Golden did confirm that “highly qualified teacher” is gone. The new term is “effective teacher” and it appears to be more of a general term rather than something with specific certification requirements attached.

The House has passed S. 1117 (the conference version) by a vote of 359-64. All the “no” votes were Republican including Rep Jason Smith from southeast Missouri. The other Missouri representatives (both Republican and Democrat) all voted “yes”.
