MVES Math Highlights!
1st Quarter
What's happening in MATH at MVES?
It is hard to believe we are already into the second quarter of the school year! So many wonderful things are happening in our math classrooms each day.
The pictures and links below are just a few examples of how our students are participating in daily Number Talks to build mental math computation and estimation, using concrete manipulatives and visual representations, as well as working collaboratively on problem solving tasks that promote critical thinking skills.
We're off to an AWESOME start!
Group Work
Students worked in collaborative groups to solve a problem, draw a pictorial represenation, and explain their thinking using sentence frames.
Number Talks
Students participate in a daily Number Talk.
Problem Solving
Students write to explain the information they are trying to find out in a problem, as well as the steps they take to solve it.
Place Value
Students used place value clues to find their "mystery number". Each student drew pictures to represent their numbers and then worked with a partner to compare using the terms "greater than", "less than", and "equal to".
Explaining Our Thinking
Students use a sentence frame to explain their mathematical thinking.
Data and Graphing
Students work in pairs to create a bar graph using data they collected.
