Update from the Health Office
Wellness update- Overall reports of student illness at TMS are improving . We are seeing some Covid cases, the common cold and gastrointestinal illnesses. Flu season is starting up and I would expect we start to see more cases of influenza soon. Kindly review the TPS General Illness Protocols for school attendance. The current Covid guidelines for K-12 students can be found here. Please note that we are no longer conducting Covid testing in the school setting. The Tyngsborough Board of Health has provided the schools with test kits that we can give out at no cost to any family that would like them. Please contact the school nurse via email if you would like free covid testing kits .
If your child tests positive for Covid-19 we are asking that you contact your child’s pediatrician for an excuse note and for return to school dates.
Additionally, please keep the health office notified of any changes in your child’s health status to include fractures, sprains, concussions, etc.
Mandated Vaccines and Physical Exams- In accordance with Massachusetts Code of Regulations 105 CMR 200.000, prior to entering the 7th Grade, all students must provide a copy of a current physical (signed by an MD and dated within one year) and proof of immunization according to the Massachusetts School Immunization Requirements 2022-2023. This means all current 6th grade students must turn in a physical to the Health Office with proof of the required immunizations before the first day of 7th grade. It is best practice to send in a copy of your child’s current PE after each well visit or immunization. If obtaining a physical exam for your child is a hardship, please contact the health office.
Mandated Health Screenings- Vision and Hearing Screenings are underway for our 7th graders. Please keep an eye out for any referral letters that may get sent home with your student. Once complete, we will begin our postural screening as required by MDPH for all 6th, 7th and 8th grade students. Substance Use Preventative Screening for Grade 7 will take place after the new year. Please keep in mind that these screenings are State mandated and are not diagnostic. It is recommended that if you receive a referral letter, to contact your child’s pediatrician for further guidance.
If your child is screened during their well visit, you may wish to send in a copy of the exam to the Health Office so we may update your child’s records. Additionally, if you choose to refuse to have your child screened in school, a written parental note is required along with proof that your child has been evaluated by a physician for each screening refused.
As always if you have any questions or concerns regarding the health and well being of your child, please contact me at the number below.

Student Information Forms still needed
STUDENT INFORMATION FORM
Each year all students must have an updated Student Information Form submitted through the parent portal. The information form, accessible through the parent portal, is used to collect items such as family information, emergency contact data, and medical permissions. It is crucial that you complete this form as soon as possible. Failure to submit this form will affect your student’s ability to attend field trips, participate in after-school activities, and receive medications from the school nurse.
7th graders will be attending the Christmas Carol production at the North Shore Music Theater on Tuesday, December 20th. It is imperative that you have your student's Student Information Form completed on the Parent Portal prior to your student attending this field trips.
Please log into your Parent Portal on the website: powerschool.tyngsboroughps.org.
In the left-hand column, please select "Student Information Form." Please complete the form and make sure you select "Submit" so that the information is recorded back to your student's Powerschool account.
